Background

Phoenix Family leadership

Leng Yaozhu leads the Phoenix Family's Direct Faction within the Spirit Pagoda. During the Phoenix Project, she directed branch Pagoda Masters to identify suitable geniuses for a secret plan; after Eastsea City produced no viable candidates, she suspended the project there and instructed Leng Yi to focus on ordinary recruitment and seek advancement to Soul Douluo. 14

Her faction stands in tension with the Qian Gu Family's Direct Faction, which she accuses of suppressing the Phoenix Family. She nevertheless considered Qian Gu Qingfeng's personal request after he promised to secretly preserve her family's position for as long as he remained standing. 14

Nan Liujing's teacher

Qian Gu Qingfeng asked Leng Yaozhu to teach Nan Liujing partly because she possesses a method by which Battle Armor can evolve naturally. After observing Nan's performance, she concluded that no further test of his talent was needed and accepted him as a Soul Master disciple alongside his blacksmith master, Zhen Hua. 14 28

She gave Nan a Soul Spirit Choice Card as a reward for killing the Special Type Wind Baboon, then tasked him with assessing Gu Yue and exploring her potential place in the Spirit Pagoda. 28 49 51

Conflict with Leng Yulai

Leng Yaozhu's younger sister, Leng Yulai, became the Evil Soul Master known as Dark Phoenix Douluo. When Yulai admitted to killing several thousand people and vowed to make Yaozhu “repay everything,” Yaozhu was left too devastated to pursue her. 58

Yulai's betrayal drove Yaozhu into grief and drinking; she confided in Nan about their past and later struggled with guilt when Yulai attempted to assassinate him. Nan's protection, insistence that Yaozhu was not responsible for Yulai's crimes, and gift of Blazing Gel helped her resolve to stop allowing her feelings to be met with betrayal. 61 151
