History

Ye Xinglan first encountered Nan Liujing in the Spirit Ascension Platform after entering alone when the person her father had asked her to wait for never arrived. As a Rank 12 Soul Master, she was forced to flee from a thousand-year Green Bush Wolf until Nan Liujing killed it with a single staff strike. Impressed by his strength, she chose to follow him through the platform. 17

Although Nan Liujing introduced himself as “Lu Mingfei,” Ye Xinglan later uncovered that no Soul Master by that name had registered for the platform and waited for him at the Heaven Dou Spirit Pagoda to confront him. Their disagreement was resolved through a discussion about caution among Soul Masters, and Ye Changming subsequently offered both of them guidance on martial souls and combat. 20

Initially proud and isolated, Ye Xinglan gradually accepted Nan Liujing and Na'er as companions. After insisting that she would call Nan Liujing “Brother,” she secured his acknowledgment of Na'er as her younger sister. 26

She continued training alongside Nan Liujing, Gu Yue, and Leng Yaozhu, making major progress in mecha design and manufacturing. By this period, her feelings for Nan Liujing were apparent, while she and Gu Yue had developed a sister-like relationship despite the tension caused by their shared affection for him. 64

Ye Xinglan is fiercely competitive and refuses to accept that others can accomplish what she cannot. Her first encounter with Nan Liujing forced her to reconsider her assumptions about the limits of one-ring Soul Masters and inspired her to seek a more lethal, direct style of swordsmanship. 17 18

She can appear aloof and difficult to approach, but she is unwavering once she recognizes someone as family or a companion. Nan Liujing identifies her tendency to shut others out, while her determination to accept Na'er as a younger sister demonstrates her willingness to change. 26

She is also practical and resourceful. When Mu Ye sought to preserve the Original Body Sect’s legacy, Ye Xinglan proposed that he join a Spirit Pagoda branch so its cultivation method could be improved and spread more widely. 148
