Background / History
Rhode awakens on Planet Rhyner with restored memories and learns that he has reincarnated as a Saiyan. Assigned to combat missions from age five, he had already become an upper-class warrior with a Power Level of 2,500 before deciding to combine Saiyan battle experience with deliberate training. Unlike most Saiyans, he develops refined ki control quickly and questions his race’s violent way of life. 1 2
After Frieza orders Saiyan squads back to Planet Vegeta, Rhode refuses to return. He removes his ship’s tracking and monitoring devices with the help of the Lainar scientist Tabor, defeats Aila when she challenges him, and secretly heads for Earth rather than revealing their destination. 2 4
On Earth, Rhode and Aila train under Master Roshi, Mr. Popo, Karin, and later the Yardratians. Rhode adopts Earth as his permanent home, gathers the Dragon Balls, develops a relationship with Capsule Corp., and increasingly treats Earth’s safety as his responsibility. 9 22 24
His pursuit of strength expands from Saiyan transformations and near-death recovery to Yardrat Spirit techniques, time-space research, divine techniques, body modification, and Dragon God Power. He eventually traverses parallel worlds with Aila and Broly, studying alternate Dragon Balls, Evil Dragons, Shenrons, and Super Dragon Balls. 54 74 190 259 284
Appearance
Rhode initially appears as a seven-year-old Saiyan boy. Following eight years of subjective time spent training in a Time Chamber, he matures into a young man physically aged sixteen. 2 54
- Tall, slender, and well-proportioned, standing over 1.8 meters. 54
- Handsome features; gentle-looking eyes that conceal a sharp presence. 54
- Keeps his aura so restrained that most people mistake him for an ordinary youth. 54
- His hairstyle is personally associated with “invincibility.” 4
- Super Saiyan God changes his hair, eyebrows, and pupils red. 185
Personality
Rhode is calm, analytical, and unusually mature for a Saiyan. He rejects indiscriminate slaughter, considers the Saiyans’ destruction a consequence of their own actions, and chooses Earth as a place worth protecting. He is also polite toward respected elders and grateful toward people who help him, particularly Dr. Brief. 3 9 22
His restraint does not make him harmless. Rhode can be ruthless toward enemies, eliminating pirates without hesitation and severely injuring opponents who underestimate him. He is willing to use dangerous methods—including near-death recovery experiments and forced fusion—to advance himself or obtain information. 15 37 260
Rhode is intensely curious and treats power as a subject to be studied. He constantly seeks principles behind ki, transformations, time-space phenomena, Dragon Balls, and wish-granting. His emotional detachment later becomes a concern when he realizes it may obstruct higher transformations. 53 74 144 280
Abilities & Skills
Saiyan Physiology and Transformations
Rhode retains control while transformed into a Great Ape and progressively refines its power into a combat technique rather than relying on the form’s raw destructiveness. 1 22 63
- Can transform into and revert from Great Ape form at will after refining his ki output. 22
- Uses Great Ape Power in instantaneous bursts for attack and defense, reducing stamina expenditure and disrupting opponents’ judgment. 63
- Achieves Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan God, Super Saiyan 4, Super Saiyan Blue Evolved, and Simplified Ultra Instinct. 92 185 190 195
- Initially cannot stack Great Ape Power with Kaio-ken because Kaio-ken destabilizes the controlled Great Ape state. 84
Ki Control and Combat Skill
Rhode’s exceptional comprehension lets him suppress his outward Power Level while preserving far greater actual combat strength. 2 4 25
- Can conceal his displayed Power Level as low as four, then three. 13 25
- Senses ki signatures across an entire planet. 2
- Learns Earth martial arts techniques in less than a day through exchange with the Earth Warriors. 85
- Uses Kamehameha and Kaio-ken; he can employ a twentyfold Kaio-ken. 16 84
- Struggles to form a conventional Spirit Bomb, but studies its theory for later applications involving energy gathering and Forced Separation. 84
Yardrat Spirit Techniques
After foundational training under Hazka and Elder Pybara, Rhode masters several advanced Spirit applications through Time Chamber study. 52 54
- Instant Transmission — Teleports across vast distances; he later develops Super Instant Transmission and integrates teleportation into combat. 40 54
- Forced Separation Technique — Separates or forcibly merges energy, beings, and eventually special entities such as Evil Dragons and Shenron. 54 260 266
- Clone Technique — Creates physical clones; clones can train, transform, and assist his research. 54 144
- Restoration Technique — Restores injuries and stamina, including healing Earth’s injured warriors. 54 80
- Shield / Defense Cover — Defensive Spirit techniques capable of blocking attacks and protecting against hostile environments. 54 80
- Mind Reading Technique — Reads thoughts and can be applied in reverse to protect his own mind. 54
Body Modification
Rhode and Aila use the Intermediate Modification Technique after long-term Time Chamber research. 190
- Grants instant regeneration.
- Extends lifespan.
- Provides near-infinite stamina.
- Makes Rhode immune to the Two-Star Dragon’s poison and pollution-based effects. 190 260
Space-Time Power
Rhode researches time-space phenomena through a Time Machine and Time Chamber experiments. 74 247
- Resists a time-stop effect long enough to take a step during fifty seconds of stopped time. 74
- Develops Time Stop, Time Reversal, and Time Acceleration. 247
- Can maintain Time Stop for an hour and expand its range to freeze a vast galaxy. 247
- Uses Space Gates and inter-world travel to access parallel worlds. 62 259
Dragon God Power Research
Rhode studies Dragon Balls and Shenrons through Forced Fusion, seeking to become a “humanoid Dragon Ball” capable of granting wishes. 264 266 280
- Learns the underlying principle of Dragon Ball wish-granting after analyzing all seven Evil Dragons. 264
- Fuses with Shenron and Porunga to obtain Dragon God Power data. 266 279
- Masters magic and the method for creating Dragon Balls after fusing with Neiba, though he still requires deeper Dragon God Power comprehension to create them independently. 284
- Successfully simulates a trace of Dragon God Power, achieving an initial version of his humanoid Dragon Ball goal. 306
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Spaceship — Used to escape the order to return to Planet Vegeta; its tracking devices and scouter are removed by Tabor. 4
- Dragon Radar — Built by Dr. Brief and used by Rhode to locate Dragon Balls. 22
- Gravity Chambers — Built and upgraded through Dr. Brief for Rhode and Aila’s training. 10 65
- Senzu Beans — Used to recover from deliberate near-death states. 15 64
- Gravity-adjusting rings — Porunga-created Pili Steel rings with adjustable gravity up to 10,000 times Earth’s gravity. 114
- Space Cube — Used to store Evil Energy collected from defeated Evil Dragons. 264
Relationships
- Aila — Fellow Saiyan, training partner, rival, and closest long-term companion. Their relationship is marked by fierce sparring, mutual growth, and increasing concern for one another. 15 62 74 190
