Background / History
Liu Bohu met Zhao Huaian while awaiting admission to the Greenwood Sect. Both possessed Three Spiritual Roots and had bypassed the assessment by offering gifts. Unlike the solitary Zhao, Liu favored lively company and frequently gathered information outside the Autumn Wind Tower, making him unusually well-informed among the prospective disciples 4.
After entering the Greenwood Sect, he became Zhao's neighbor and early friend. He relied on martial arts practiced since childhood to fight other disciples over lodging, then received the Azure Wood Art alongside Zhao 5 6. Early in his cultivation, Liu was confident and showy, repeatedly boasting of his victories and expecting the support of his clan brother Liu Yuanping to carry him further 6 13.
Liu later joined Liu Yuanping's mission team. A hunt near Blackwater Lake ended disastrously: three team members died, two were seriously injured, and Liu Yuanping was poisoned while protecting the retreat. Liu sought Zhao's help without hesitation and was prepared to spend all available spirit stones or pawn magic items to save his cousin 35 36. To fund the necessary antidote, Liu and Liu Yuanping sold an incomplete Foundation Establishment Sword Dao inheritance for 600 low-grade spirit stones 37 39.
A later competition cost Liu his left arm. Although Liu Yuanping compensated him with pills and a better residence, the injury ended his earlier carefree manner and made him conscious that he had become the weakest member of the task team 60 65. Before entering long-term seclusion, Liu Yuanping asked Zhao to look after Liu because Liu had made enemies while handling matters for him 80.
Years later, Liu had become a ruthless Golden Core cultivator who used the flesh and blood of others to cultivate his Mo arts. He collaborated with Blood Hand in repeated killings, treating victims as nourishment for his Blood Blade 272. Zhao encountered him during the Shanshui City conflict, revealed his identity, and persuaded Liu to betray Blood Hand in exchange for stronger prey and a place at Zhao's side 274.
Appearance
Liu was first described as a handsome youth in white robes with a warm smile 4. After losing his left arm, his appearance and bearing became markedly harsher.
- His left arm was severed; he is later known as the One-armed Master 60.
- He later wears black robes and carries a Blood Blade while emanating dense blood-fiend energy 281.
- His single remaining arm is strong enough to wield the Blood Blade in high-level Golden Core combat 281.
Personality
In his youth, Liu was sociable, outspoken, and vain about his martial prowess. He enjoyed praise, liked gathering news, and initially believed his talent and clan support would carry him quickly through cultivation 4 6 13. Despite this arrogance, he valued his friendship with Zhao and warned him when someone was making inquiries about him 13.
Liu showed deep attachment to Liu Yuanping, prioritizing his cousin's survival over their savings and possessions after the Blackwater Lake disaster 35 36. Losing his arm changed him into a more restrained and deferential person; he began addressing Zhao as “Divine Doctor Zhao” and openly requested guidance rather than treating him as an equal 65.
His later pursuit of power became openly bloodthirsty. He killed to cultivate his Mo arts, sought strong opponents' vital energy, and abandoned Blood Hand as soon as Zhao offered a more profitable alliance 272 274. Even so, he feels gratitude rather than jealousy toward Zhao, believing that opportunities are personal and that following Zhao offers him strength, safety, and resources 288 290.
