Background / History

Shrek Academy developed from an obscure school into the continent's foremost academy. Its early fame was built through Tang San and the First Generation Shrek Seven Devils, while its later ten-thousand-year prestige came from generations of Shrek predecessors and the first Master of the Sea God Pavilion. It accepts talented students without requiring them to join Shrek permanently after graduation. 18 19 54

During the war between Douluo Continent and Sun Moon Continent, a Shrek Academy president with an ultimate martial soul gathered nearly sixty Titled Douluo, led the continent's forces to victory, and secured Shrek's rise in status. The academy subsequently received greater autonomy and support from the major empires, enabling the establishment of Shrek City. 86

By the present era, Shrek stands above national politics in practice despite its claimed neutrality. Its dean may sit as an equal to emperors, and its influence extends strongly into the Heaven Soul and Dou Spirit Empires. Sea God Pavilion

The Sea God Pavilion is Shrek Academy's highest decision-making body. Located beneath the Golden Ancient Tree, it convenes for major academy affairs. Sea God Pavilion renaming

After the Sky Curtain exposed Tang San's actions, the elders resolved to sever the academy's association with him by renaming the Sea God Pavilion and Sea God Island. No replacement name is recorded; Mu En later decides that Gu Tian should suggest one upon arriving at Shrek. 31 79

Neutrality and independence

Shrek Academy does not belong to any nation. Its Sea God Pavilion Masters are normally selected through internal recommendation, with peerless strength and loyalty to Shrek as baseline requirements; many are academy-trained talents. 3

When Gu Tian's future identity as both Star Luo Emperor and Sea God Pavilion Master is revealed, the academy debates whether this would compromise its independence. Mu En ultimately distinguishes Shrek from the First Generation Shrek Seven Devils and chooses cooperation with the Star Luo Empire to protect Gu Tian. 8 17 18

Shrek Supervisory Team

The Supervisory Team was established to eliminate Evil Soul Masters and protect civilians, but its mission system requires inner-court students to complete at least thirty supervisory assignments before graduation. Its members often face dangerous opponents without adequate time to determine whether accusations are justified. 40

Over time, the team also became a means of maintaining Shrek's favorable continental image, reinforcing its transcendent position, and intervening in other nations' affairs. Mu En recognizes flaws in its oversight and the prejudice of its members toward unusual or “evil” martial souls, but lacks the time and support to reform it. 40

The academy's future is stated to include the Supervisory Team's disbandment under the rationale that an academy should not interfere in continental affairs. 40

Relationship with Tang San

Tang San and the First Generation Shrek Seven Devils were crucial to Shrek's founding-era rise, but their importance has become primarily symbolic after ten thousand years of independent development. 18 54

Following the Sky Curtain's revelations, Shrek publicly distances itself from Tang San. Recruitment of Gu Tian and Huo Yutong

Xuan Zi attempts to bring Gu Tian to Shrek, claiming that the future Pavilion Master belongs at the academy. Azure Luan Douluo prevents the attempt, warning that Shrek may be unsafe because of Tang San's possible influence through the Golden Ancient Tree. 25 28

Shrek also seeks Huo Yutong because of her exceptional Body Martial Soul and future connection to Gu Tian. After she becomes Du Busi's disciple, Elder Song notes that membership in the Body Sect does not prevent her from studying at Shrek. 69 78

Breaking with Tang San

As the Sky Curtain exposes Tang San's schemes, Shrek's leaders prioritize protecting the academy's reputation and separating its identity from his. The destruction of Tang San's statue signals that Shrek will not reconcile with him, although Mu En preserves the statues of the other First Generation Seven Devils. 31 54 55

Threat to the Golden Ancient Tree

The future vision shows Shrek Academy reduced to ruins during the first Human-God War, with Shrek City later rebuilt as a war fortress. The elders infer that Tang San used Shrek as a connection point between the God Realm and Douluo Continent, leading Elder Zhuang and Yan Shaozhe to urge removal of the Golden Ancient Tree. When Original Sin Power from the Sky Curtain affects reality, Shrek students and teachers lose control.
