Background
Wang Jingyuan was a 24-year-old trading-company employee from Rongdu. After launching a newly released “hardcore and realistic” game, he lost consciousness and awoke in its world with visible names, health bars, quest prompts, and proficiency notifications. He treats this reality as a game and prioritizes entertainment, advancement, and efficient quest completion. 2
He first awakens in the body of his 18-year-old self, which he considers disappointingly slender compared with his older physique. After defeating members of his apparent family and clearing the tutorial by killing Wang Qingchi, he is transferred into the world of The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. 2 3
Wang falls onto Mount Hua, where Yue Buqun mistakes his arrival for an immortal phenomenon. He accepts Yue Buqun’s quest to revitalize Mount Hua, joins the sect under his own name, and learns its basic internal cultivation and sword technique immediately. 4 5
Appearance
Wang Jingyuan has the body and appearance of his 18-year-old self: a tall, slender build, fair skin, lean musculature, and a delicate, handsome face. 2
- Usually carries a sword and later adopts black clothing for concealment. 12
- Is notably inattentive to conventional dress and cleanliness, at one point practicing swordplay naked to avoid washing clothes. 7
- Is regarded as exceptionally handsome by Yue Lingshan and draws attention in public settings. 5 21
- Uses black cloth to conceal his identity when operating under an alias. 37
Personality
Wang approaches the world with an aggressively game-like mindset. He calls people NPCs, interprets missions as quests, measures combat through proficiency gains, and judges actions largely by their efficiency, entertainment value, or potential reward. 1 2 47
He is inventive, audacious, and highly adaptable in conflict. Rather than adhering to orthodox swordplay or Jianghu etiquette, he favors ambushes, distractions, misinformation, lime powder, drugs, financial leverage, and political manipulation. 1 15 31 37
His pragmatism frequently crosses into cruelty. He kills bandits to gain proficiency, cripples and kills Tian Boguang despite Linghu Chong’s objections, and considers monetizing Tian Boguang’s capture and corpse through the Fuwei Escort Agency. 13 24 33
Despite this, Wang is not indiscriminately hostile. He protects Yue Lingshan during their journey, secretly performs household labor for Niu Da’s family, mentors Lin Pingzhi, and seeks long-term alliances that can strengthen Mount Hua. 9 14 18 23
Abilities & Skills
Player System
Wang possesses a game-like interface unavailable to ordinary people.
- Sees names and color-coded health bars, allowing him to distinguish apparent allies, neutral parties, and hostile targets. 2
- Receives quest prompts, duel invitations, loot-like rewards, and proficiency notifications. 2 3 4
- Gains martial proficiency through training, defeating opponents, and killing enemies. 1 2 13
- Cannot harm allies outside a duel because friendly fire is disabled. 6
- Uses visible nameplates to locate people through walls and crowds. 37
Item Inventory
Wang can store and retrieve inanimate objects seemingly from nowhere.
- Stores herbs, fruit, silver notes, hammers, clothing, manuals, and other supplies. 8 12 48
- Uses the inventory to conceal weapons and create sudden misdirection in combat. 12 37 49
- Cannot store living beings or Tian Boguang’s fresh corpse. 36
Instant Learning and AFK Cultivation
Wang can acquire techniques as soon as a qualified person teaches or explains them.
- Instantly learns Mount Hua Basic Internal Cultivation and Mount Hua Sword Technique from Yue Buqun. 5
- Learns Bixie Swordplay after Lin Zhennan explains its content. 20
- Exploits incomplete guidance from Yue Buqun to learn confiscated manuals without personally studying each one. 40
- His internal cultivation progresses automatically while idle, though only at a slow fixed rate. 5 10 40
Swordsmanship
Wang’s foundational art is the Mount Hua Sword Technique, which he applies with unconventional timing and improvised off-hand actions.
- Breaks conventional move sequences to make attacks harder to predict. 1
- Uses the simple “Green Pine Welcoming Guests” repeatedly to defeat Lin Pingzhi. 17
- Surpasses Yue Lingshan’s swordsmanship after repeatedly fighting bandits and sparring with her. 16
- Combines orthodox Mount Hua techniques with Bixie Swordplay’s speed to overwhelm Mount Hua disciples. 28
Bixie Swordplay
Bixie Swordplay grants extreme speed, but its internal-energy method creates severe side effects for Wang.
- Can split opponents’ hairpins before they react and demonstrate the first twelve forms publicly. 22 43
- Uses its speed to sever Tian Boguang’s tendons and sinews. 33
- Safely performs only two or three consecutive moves before desire and internal-energy disruption begin. 20
- Extended practice causes intense arousal and risks qi deviation affecting both Bixie and Mount Hua internal energy. 20
Dai Zong Ru He
A Mount Tai technique centered on calculation rather than conventional sword forms.
- Calculates an opponent’s movements before launching a direct strike. 35
- Can gain early proficiency by calculating the actions of passing Jianghu figures. 36
- Requires stronger opponents or combat to progress after its initial proficiency threshold. 36
