Background / History
Benjamin created the Black Giants in the Purgatory Sulfur Plane as an improved elemental lifeform combining the foundations of Lava Giants and Snow Monsters. Their core design incorporates thermal-energy absorption, fire-energy conversion, and a temporal talent inherited from Snow Monsters. A perfected Level 4 mother core, containing blue and red vortex-like structures, was cultivated from Level 3 Snow Monster and Level 4 Lava Giant cores before being used for incubation. 239 242
The first Black Giant was born from a blood-red magma Incubation Pool. It was pitch-black, radiated cold despite standing in molten magma, and briefly went out of control before Benjamin defeated it during a live combat test. Benjamin chose the short codename “Black Giant” rather than its lengthy official classification. 239
Early breeding was constrained by extreme energy consumption. The Incubation Pool required far more energy than one used for ordinary Lava Giants, particularly when producing high-level individuals. With increased elemental-energy infrastructure, Benjamin eventually produced a five-member initial brood led by a Level 3 Black Giant. 242 243
The race developed rapidly through warfare, devouring biological resources and adapting to hostile conditions. After decades of conflict, two original veterans reached Level 4 and gained combat power sufficient to tear apart ordinary Level 5 lifeforms. 267 Their population later became a stable servant race capable of reproducing through core crystal nuclei and forming tribes, rituals, and social customs. 330 338
Benjamin deliberately introduced reproductive ability to move the Black Giants beyond the status of expendable weapons and establish the foundations of a self-sustaining society. 329 336 After the Level 7 Large Elemental Pool began supplying their Incubation Pools, a Level 3 Black Giant could hatch in one minute rather than a year. 336 Their population subsequently approached six hundred million, with migrating tribes domesticating heat-resistant Magic Beasts and creating an ecosystem centered on their movements through the plane’s magma. 338
The Incense Divinity Path accelerated the Black Giants’ social and biological development. It produced the first Black Giant Priests—highly intelligent Level 6 mutations—and enabled Benjamin to command the population through the Fate System. 364 365 587 After nearly a millennium of growth, the race exceeded ten billion individuals on the Purgatory Sulfur Plane, with more than 100,000 at Level 6 or above. 543
During preparations for the Coordination War, Benjamin selected eight hundred Priests, one million Level 5 warriors, and nearly ten thousand Level 6 Black Giants under Mount Magma and Rock Hammer, while leaving other Priests and Level 4 individuals to maintain and defend their home plane. 463 The surviving deployed force later numbered slightly over ten thousand, all seasoned Level 6 lifeforms. Benjamin distributed these veterans among the tribes to teach younger Black Giants battlefield survival and combat skills. 538
Benjamin later used Moonlight Essence and parallel-world biological modification technology to create a stronger generation of Black Giants. He then applied the new traits to every existing Black Giant through the Incense Divinity Path, raising their intelligence, energy absorption, soul strength, and advancement potential. 614 Following this process, ordinary Black Giants gained wisdom approaching that of earlier Black Giant Priests, greatly improving their administrative and Incense Divine Power-gathering efficiency. 614
The race-wide enhancement took a day and a night, exhausted Benjamin, and nearly depleted the accumulated Incense Divine Power reserves. He then arranged for modified Incubation Pools to be installed across the eleven tribes and instructed their leaders to concentrate new-generation hatching after full-moon nights. These pools automatically collect Moonlight Essence and incorporate it into embryonic development, but must wait between batches until sufficient essence has accumulated. 614
As the Purgatory Sulfur Plane developed, Black Giant settlements became orderly city clusters, while excavation teams extracted ore and energy crystals from newly fused subordinate planes. Their society supplied both the labor and the Power of Incense supporting Benjamin’s expanding infrastructure. 680
During the conquest of the Tentacle Tree Civilization, the legion expanded from a Purgatory Sulfur Plane defense force into a massive interstellar occupation army. After destroying the enemy fleet, Black Giant units seized colony worlds, rapidly took over local administrative systems, and imposed order with relatively limited civilian losses. 695 697 705 Black Giant Priests subsequently supervised construction, research, and technological integration alongside Tentacle Tree researchers. 737 761 777
Following later research, Benjamin’s subordinates clarified the principal structural and energy-circulation requirements for Black Giant advancement into Level 7. Although the route to Level 8 remains unresolved, the resulting method is projected to greatly accelerate Level 7 breakthroughs. 880 During the subsequent war against a technological civilization fielding mass-produced Level 8 warships and mechas, Benjamin deployed four Level 7 Black Giants and tens of millions of Level 6 Black Giants. 896 The conflict exposed the growing inadequacy of ordinary Level 6 Black Giants against Level 8 opponents, reinforcing Benjamin’s decision to prioritize their advancement beyond Level 6. 897 904
In the later Sacred Spirit campaign, the Black Giant Legion invaded the Stepping-Stone World alongside the Dragonblood Mushroom Legion. After a Priest killed the guards attacking Benjamin, the two legions annihilated tens of millions of Bat People defenders. Benjamin discovered that the Spirit Race had permanently controlled the Bat People through biological tentacles, extracted the location of its Holy City, and ordered his legions to advance on the stronghold. 933
Following the conquest of the Sacred Spirit plane cluster, Black Giant Priests also supervised Spirit Race breeding zones on the Purgatory Sulfur Plane. Benjamin instructed the overseeing Priest not to waste high-rank individuals as he organized the conquered civilization’s resources, research records, and biological remains. 955
Appearance
Ordinary Black Giants are massive humanoid elemental beings coated in a shifting, lightless layer of black liquid metal. They can appear to be covered in solid black metal, but their surfaces constantly flow in subtle currents. Their bodies emit cold even while immersed in magma. 239
- Pitch-black, smooth liquid-metal exterior that absorbs most incoming light and reflects almost none. 239
- Eyes are typically either lightless black or filled with energy flames. 239 269
- A vertical maw runs from the chest to the abdomen; it contains obsidian-like teeth and serves as their primary feeding organ. 249
- Mature Level 3 individuals exceed twenty meters in height; higher-level individuals grow exponentially larger. 341
- Mount Magma reaches nearly one hundred meters at Level 6 and exceeds ten thousand meters after advancing to Level 7. 398 538
- New-generation Black Giants possess denser liquid-metal layers, clearer eyes, and prominent silver-white patterns produced by Moonlight Essence enhancement; they are slightly smaller than previous-generation individuals of the same level. 614
- Black Giant Priests are smaller and leaner, standing slightly over two meters tall with calmer obsidian eyes and more human-like proportions. 365
- Some upper Level 6 combatants exceed one thousand meters in height and display dark-red energy light within their chest maws. 685
Abilities & Skills
Energy Absorption and Conversion
Black Giants absorb and convert a wide range of incoming energy through their specialized liquid-metal bodies.
- Fire attacks function as efficient energy charging rather than a weakness. 239
- Cold, frost, lightning, and many direct energy attacks can also be absorbed through energy-conversion mechanisms. 239
- Their absorption fields can drain energy from shields, explosions, weapon fire, and even particles in the vacuum. 239 696
- Kinetic energy from electromagnetic shells and the heat of plasma weapons can be absorbed, dispersed, or converted rather than causing ordinary impact damage. 695
- Excessive energy consumption is required for incubation, growth, and high-level evolution. 242 249
- Their apparent coldness results from extracting external heat rather than possessing a cold interior; their bodies retain extremely high internal temperatures. The thermal-extraction system draws on Benjamin’s analysis of Water Element Origin, while energy conversion derives from his Lava Giant research. 239
- They can drain heat from a broad area to freeze large numbers of enemies, then combine the absorbed energy with their own power and discharge it as a blazing torrent. 272
- The tested new-generation Black Giant has 40% greater energy absorption efficiency than the previous generation. 614
Temporal Disorder
Their Snow Monster-derived temporal talent enhances their own speed while interfering with opponents.
- Black Giants possess extraordinary acceleration, fast enough to leave afterimages even against Benjamin’s perception. 239
- A Time Slow Domain can delay enemy attacks and protect allied Level 3 Wizards. 272
- Large formations can accelerate their own local time flow while slowing enemy weapons, shields, and reactions. 295
- Their immense energy reserves sustain simultaneous self-acceleration and localized external deceleration, although the initial design does not reproduce the absolute time-stop domain previously achieved by cooperating Lava Giants and Snow Monsters. 239
- Their slowing fields can protect nearby allies from ambushes, giving Benjamin time to evade attacks that would otherwise be too fast to avoid. 305 314
Devour Evolution
Black Giants consume organic matter, elemental energy, and battlefield debris to grow.
- Their modified digestive system converts devoured creatures into energy and advancement resources. 249
- The Five-Viscera Sacrificial Divine Art was adapted into their bodies to improve devouring efficiency. 249
- Consuming high-level remains can push bottlenecked individuals into new levels. 606 612
- In large-scale void warfare, they can absorb enemy firepower and consume warship wreckage while fighting, increasing their mass and overall combat strength through each deployment cycle. 696 697
- Their growth is highly dependent on available energy and resources. 249
- Their innate affinity for energy and time laws allows their advancement to rely more heavily on resource accumulation and the development of latent potential than on the profound rule comprehension required of wizards. 267
Adaptive Evolution
A Black Giant that survives an attack gradually gains resistance to that attack type.
- Their integrated Body Tempering Method grants partial adaptive evolution despite their elemental bodies. 249
- Repeated exposure to spatial and wind-element damage gave veteran Black Giants high resistance to Spatial Distortion. 270
- Natural population-wide mutations improved body density, toughness, and energy-transmission efficiency over centuries. 586
- Moonlight Essence-based modification substantially improves their physical foundation, absorption efficiency, soul strength, and probability of advancement. 614
- Researchers later identify specific body-structure and energy-circulation nodes that can increase the efficiency of Level 7 advancement severalfold. 880
- Benjamin’s comparison of an older template with a later Level 3 specimen found a 7% increase in bodily metal density, a thinner but tougher surface layer, and a 12% improvement in energy-transmission efficiency. These inherited changes also affected newly hatched individuals and the Incubation Pools themselves. 586
- New-generation testing records a 30% improvement in physical abilities and doubled soul strength, with the estimated probability of advancement increased by an order of magnitude. 614
Elemental Physiology and Regeneration
As elemental hybrid lifeforms, Black Giants are highly durable against physical destruction.
- Severe cuts and dismemberment release energy rather than blood; their bodies rapidly repair themselves. 272
- They can regenerate lost mass and limbs after major damage if sufficient energy remains. 687
- Ordinary Black Giants can survive for several thousand years without food or sleep if not killed or drained of energy. 398
- Level 4 and Level 5 individuals can live for tens of thousands of years. 398
- Their physical resistance and survivability make them especially dangerous against conventional weapons. 695 696
- Level 6 Black Giants can produce elemental shockwaves through their punches that directly damage large-scale energy shields. 695
- Their elemental energy serves as both their power supply and the foundation of their lives; complete depletion is fatal. 248
- Mount Magma withstands a planet-destroying beam assessed by Benjamin as a standard Level 7 attack without suffering any injury. 695
Controlled Self-Destruction and Reconstruction
Benjamin modified Black Giant cores to make self-destruction a reusable breaching weapon.
- A Black Giant can release over 95% of its energy within one thousandth of a second. 287
- Preset core runes shape the release into a directional, highly concentrated explosion, while the remaining energy protects the soul and fundamental structural information within the core. 287
- Cores can preserve soul information and be recovered for reconstruction after detonation. 287 295
- Reconstruction from a sufficiently intact recovered core preserves memories, combat experience, consciousness, and accumulated environmental resistances. 287
- If a core cannot be retrieved, a stored core fragment can be used to incubate a replacement retaining its previous creature level. 287
- Replacement through the backup-fragment method resets previously accumulated environmental resistances and loses prior combat experience and memories, effectively creating a new soul. 287
- An unrecoverable core can completely annihilate itself to prevent the race’s core-manufacturing technology from being captured. 287
- The tested Level 1 Black Giant produces destructive power equivalent to a Level 2 spell and is restored from its recovered core in less than a minute. 287
- Against Level 8 mechanical units, Level 6 Black Giants can still inflict damage through repeated self-destruction even when conventional combat strength is insufficient. 897
Dao Soldier System Resurrection
The completed Dao Soldier System allows dying Black Giants to be recalled and restored.
- Mortally wounded enhanced believers are automatically teleported to the Purgatory Sulfur Plane. 616
- Their consciousness cores and life imprints are rescued before complete death. 696
- Restored Black Giants can return to battle quickly, turning apparent casualties into a cycle of recovery and redeployment. 696 697
- The system can trigger even when a Level 7 Black Giant suffers catastrophic core and torso damage from an unidentified attack. 707
- The resurrection system permits Black Giants to repeatedly sacrifice themselves to delay stronger mechanical enemies without suffering permanent attrition. 897
- Recovery altars use Power of Incense and the plane’s energy supply to repair their bodies, including regenerating destroyed limbs. 687
- Resurrection is not absolutely infallible: exceptionally unlucky individuals still die permanently, although the Tentacle Tree campaign’s losses remain in the single digits. 697
- Damaged Level 6 Black Giant cores whose shattered souls cannot be resurrected can instead serve as foundations for separately refined Dao Soldiers. Benjamin’s first such construct retains Black Giant energy absorption, time manipulation, and physical resistance, with tested output and defense at peak Level 6. 615
Black Giant Priests
Priests are a specialized mutation within the race rather than conventional divine casters.
- Priests possess exceptional intelligence, logical reasoning, and affinity for energy and time-related studies. 365 366
- They begin at Level 6 through innate mastery of energy laws. 365
- Early Priests lack conventional healing, prophecy, blessing, and curse abilities. 365
- In legion warfare, Priests coordinate support barriers for strength, speed, damage sharing, and elemental resistance. 473
- They serve as Benjamin’s researchers, administrators, engineers, and battlefield coordinators. 365 583
- Priests direct large-scale construction projects, collaborate with Tentacle Tree researchers, and manage the integration of conquered civilizations into Benjamin’s systems. 735 737 777
- Priests also oversee research into Black Giant advancement and construct Benjamin’s large-scale Self-Growing Soil Creation formation. 880 904
- During refinement of the first Celestial Star Array Eye, Priests assemble a Refinement Ring over three million kilometers in diameter and spend a year supplying materials and maintaining its runes alongside Benjamin. 786
- Priests oversee Spirit Race breeding zones after the conquest of the Sacred Spirit plane cluster. 955
Construction and Technical Work
Black Giants perform extensive industrial and infrastructure work in addition to combat.
- Mount Magma and Level 6 Black Giants transport enormous, dense materials for the Fate subsystem under Priest supervision. 548
- Excavation teams mine ore and energy crystals in subordinate planes. 680
- Experienced builders install Flame-Pattern Stone Slabs, weld energy conduits, and calibrate rune precision using low-frequency vibrations emitted through their chest maws. 738
- Level 6 construction leaders supervise submodules and direct Level 5 workers in adjusting installation angles, reinforcing welds, and recalibrating runes. 738
Limitations
Despite their exceptional durability, Black Giants can be countered by specialized systems or attacks that bypass their normal defenses.
- Time-Deceleration Field Generators can interfere with their temporal acceleration, while Energy-Extraction Force Fields weaken the absorption capacity of their liquid-metal layers. 407
- Early void-probe formations lacked sophisticated tactics and could be defeated by technologically superior fleets before the Dao Soldier System restored their casualties. 687
- An unknown force was able to precisely pierce Level 7 Black Giants’ cores and cause rapid torso collapse, forcing emergency recall through the Dao Soldier System. 707
- Most Level 6 Black Giants cannot meaningfully confront Level 8 enemies through ordinary combat and must rely largely on self-destruction or numerical attrition. 897 904
- Massed Level 8 cannon fire can vaporize large numbers of Black Giants despite their durability and regenerative infrastructure. 896
- Their original aerial propulsion expels internal fire to generate recoil, making it clumsy, inefficient, and costly in life-sustaining energy. Early units use temporary flying Wizard Artifacts to compensate. 248 249
- Underwater heat absorption can freeze surrounding water into enormous blocks of ice, severely restricting their effectiveness. Highly agile aerial opponents and exceptionally hard targets also expose weaknesses in their original combat design. 248 279
- Competing with them for environmental heat can increase their energy expenditure, and attacks exceeding their absorption threshold can still damage them. 239 270
- Their elemental bodies receive only part of the strengthening available from flesh-and-blood Body Tempering Methods, while integrating those methods greatly increases incubation and growth costs. 249
- Even Level 7 Black Giants can have their defenses pierced and their bodies violently thrown aside by the Level 8 Mushroom People leader. 858

Trivia
- Large Black Giant gatherings absorb enough heat to cool magma into temporary black-rock islands. 338
- The initial natural rate of Black Giant Priest births was approximately one Priest per ten million Black Giants. 366
- Their chest maws make Black Giants capable of consuming creatures, energy-rich matter, and battlefield wreckage. 249 696
- Despite their battlefield power, Benjamin considers them specialized heavy fortresses and support units rather than all-purpose combatants; he deliberately does not prioritize improving their aerial or aquatic combat performance. 279
- Their once-in-a-decade racial celebration is known as the Molten Fire Festival. 398
- Their longer ceremonial cycles include the Centennial Grand Sacrifice and the Millennial Sacred Ceremony, the latter not yet held when these traditions are described. 398
- More than three billion participants in one Molten Fire Festival generate synchronized thoughts and energy that drive Incense Divine Power production beyond Benjamin’s predicted threshold. 398
- Benjamin compares the early brood’s method of grabbing and devouring white Cloud Monsters to automated agricultural harvesting machinery. 249
