Background / History
Lord Luo was born into the declining Luo military family of Yubi County, descendants of generals whose former retainers and soldiers had dwindled to only several thousand before northern forces moved south. Unable to find a path to serve the country despite his lineage, he left home and wandered as a martial artist, helping people facing injustice while keeping his skills sharp. 201 431
He first met Lin Jue in Huizhou while investigating the moving-mountain phenomenon. The two temporarily joined forces against strange apes; Luo slew most of them while Lin Jue countered their leader's poisonous green mist. They parted after collecting the bounty, but retained mutual respect. 20
Before becoming Lin Jue's companion, Luo had spent years in the capital and served as County Captain of Changning County, handling cases involving Demonic Ghosts. His experience made him familiar with the capital's dangers, the Gathering Immortals Mansion, and investigations involving supernatural criminals. 201 257 289
After reuniting with Lin Jue, he traveled with Lin Jue and Junior Sister, fought monsters, helped defeat the Alligator Dragon King, and distributed the recovered treasure fairly by letting the wounded and major contributors choose first. Lin Jue later invited him to serve as a Dao Protector, offering alchemical support in exchange for his martial skill, judgment, and knowledge of the martial world. 241 257
In the capital, Luo pursued criminals connected to Jingyun Temple, interrogated captured accomplices, and dealt decisively with Qingquanzi rather than risk the corrupt court protecting him. He also gathered Jianghu heroes to help expose the temple's crimes. 297 304
Luo's martial cultivation advanced rapidly through Lin Jue's pills, the Heaven-and-Earth-Essence bottle, and his own practice. During the battle at Jinping County, he fought the Wolf General despite severe wounds. The county's people began treating him as a deity afterward, and he developed superhuman perception of Five Qi, distant sounds, and incense. 319 323
After leaving the capital with more than a hundred followers, he returned to the Luo family as the realm descended into war. His reputation drew warriors to his side, and his forces became a major northern power. Though he surrendered captured cities and troops to Shu Xianwen once, the act enhanced his reputation for righteousness; he later escaped Shu Xianwen's attempted Hongmen Banquet with his Personal Guard. 377 431 455
Luo eventually seized the capital, founded a new dynasty named Yu, and became emperor. He simplified his coronation because the south remained unsettled and the people had been exhausted by war. 506 He later defeated King Yue, unified the realm, treated the defeated ruler's family leniently, and granted King Yue an emperor's burial. 541
As emperor, he resisted divine interference in mortal governance and relied on the Southern Celestial Master to counterbalance the Purple Emperor's influence. 547 After a long reign and the deaths of his old companions, he abdicated in favor of the Crown Prince and accepted Lin Jue's invitation to cultivate in the mountains. 560 561
Appearance
Lord Luo is a weathered martial man whose bearing becomes increasingly imposing after he takes the throne. He commonly travels armed, dressed simply, and concealed beneath a bamboo hat; at his coronation, he wears a black-gold dragon robe. 257 377 505
- Carries a spear and a family saber, including the Cold Moon Precious Saber. 377
- Has a stubbled, scarred face and a weathered expression. 377 505
- Wore a bamboo hat while living as an outlaw and Jianghu hero. 263 297

Personality
Luo is straightforward, decisive, and deeply intolerant of injustice. He travels without a fixed destination to help people in need, and he acts quickly when confronting monsters, corrupt officials, or criminal cultivators. 201 304
He possesses a strong sense of fairness. After the Alligator Dragon King's defeat, he ensured that wounded people and those who had contributed the most selected treasure before anyone else. 241 His harsh methods in interrogation and punishment contrast with Lin Jue's reluctance to handle such matters, making him a practical complement to the Daoist. 296 304
Despite his severity, Luo is reflective and loyal. He values the companionship built with Lin Jue, respects the suffering of common people, and later finds contentment in farming and teaching after relinquishing imperial power. 377 561
