Background / History
Monferno evolved into Infernape after its brutal battle with Blaziken. Evolution restored enough energy for one final eruption of strength, but it collapsed immediately afterward from exhaustion. Its new form stood roughly 1.7 meters tall and replaced its tail flame with an unceasing blaze atop its head. 403
Soon after evolving, Infernape was diagnosed with Energy Intertwining: its Rage Form and Awakening Electric repelled one another, making its evolved strength difficult to control and risking self-injury. Fang Yuan withdrew from the World's Greatest Fighting Tournament and devised the Thunder Flame Mode training plan rather than allowing the limitation to define Infernape's growth. 404
After three months of training, Infernape's Thunder Armor neared completion. It learned to stimulate its neural response speed with lightning and maintained a perfect record against Awakened Dragonite during this period. 450
Its breakthrough came when Rage Fire and Thunder Armor finally operated together as Thunder Flame Mode. Ditto later became its dedicated partner by transforming into a Thunder Flame Turbine Bracer, eliminating the mode's side effects and allowing Infernape to develop the Eight Gates Formation. 494 547
Infernape won the Third Fang Yuan Tournament by defeating Eevee, Armored Magnezone, and Mega Gengar. It opened the Second Gate against Magnezone and the Third Gate against Mega Gengar. 557
Its later battles repeatedly pushed Thunder Flame Mode beyond prior limits: it opened four gates to overwhelm Volcarona, five gates to defeat Master Tao Xiuying's Life Fire-enhanced Blaziken, and seven gates to pass Entei's Sacred Fire trial. 717 840 1053
Following special training involving Sacred Ash, Life Fire, and the Black and White Dragons' Overdrive method, Infernape mastered Life Fire and improved its body enough to use Seven Gates without injury. It subsequently defeated Gigantamax Charizard in the World Championships and Deoxys in an arena battle. 1174 1202 1203 1204 1231
Appearance
Infernape is a long-limbed, red-brown and white-furred Pokémon with a perpetual flame burning on its head. Its physique is exceptionally refined through physical training, with powerful limbs and a combat-ready stance. 403 1169
- White fur covers its head, chest, and lower legs. 403
- Golden spiral-shaped scales cover its shoulders, chest, backs of its hands, and knees. 403
- Its facial markings changed from blue as Monferno to red after evolution. 403
- It has blue eyes noted for intense fighting spirit. 639 1147
- In Thunder Flame Mode, golden lightning and deep crimson or red-gold flames cover its body like armor. 557 717
Personality
Infernape is intensely competitive, proud, and obsessed with becoming stronger. It dislikes being left behind by its teammates and reacts strongly to any chance to surpass Eevee and Magnezone. 404 514 1202
Its defining trait is perseverance. It repeatedly chooses dangerous training and continues fighting through severe injuries, treating hardship as the necessary cost of improvement. Even Ho-Oh, Reshiram, and Zekrom recognize its perseverance. 1174 1178
Despite its bravado, Infernape is capable of reflection and genuine respect. It refused to surrender to Eevee in the Third Fang Yuan Tournament because doing so would betray its effort, and it values Ditto's support in mastering Thunder Flame Mode. 557 547
Abilities & Skills
Thunder Flame Mode
A combination of Rage Fire and Thunder Armor that causes Fire- and Electric-type power to strengthen one another. Its core principle is Intertwined Power. 494 576
- Enhances strength, speed, reactions, durability, and overall combat qualities. 638 707
- Initially caused Energy Intertwining and could leave Infernape bedridden for extended periods. 404 576
- Ditto's turbine-bracer transformation can remove the mode's side effects and assist with higher gates. 547 1103
- Infernape later gained the ability to use the First Gate independently, though higher gates originally required external assistance. 576
Eight Gates Formation
A staged extension of Thunder Flame Mode that compresses Thunder Flame Energy to force Infernape's body beyond its normal limits. 548 717
- Opening Gate — perfected Thunder Flame Mode with minimal backlash. 717
- Rest Gate — raises physical ability to the Top Level Domain. 557
- Life Gate — further increases speed and attack; originally the final safe stage. 557
- Hurt Gate / Fourth Gate — temporarily grants Top Level Fourth Stage power with Ditto's aid. 717
- Block Gate / Fifth Gate — allowed Infernape to suppress Blaziken's Life Fire and defeat it. 840
- Sixth Gate — reaches Top Guardian God combat power, though it originally inflicted considerable backlash when used alone. 1103
- Fear Gate / Seventh Gate — produces the embryonic form of Legendary-level power; later becomes usable without injury after Life Flame training. 1147 1203
- Death Gate / Eighth Gate — the complete state of Intertwined Power, but Overdrive activation still severely injures Infernape. 1147 1203
Willpower Flame
An evolution of Explosive Rage that reflects Infernape's fighting spirit rather than anger. The stronger its resolve, the stronger the flame becomes. 639 785
- Replaced ordinary Rage Fire as the emotional foundation of Thunder Flame Mode. 639 784
- Allows Infernape to grow stronger as battle continues. 784
- Can manifest as a towering flame exceeding ten meters in height. 639
Thunder Armor
A lightning-based enhancement technique developed through Hidden Power and Role Play training. It stimulates Infernape's body and nerves for extreme reaction speed and physical reinforcement. 422 450
- Provides speed and combat ability comparable to Extreme Speed. 589
- Can simulate electromagnetic levitation, enabling Moon Step aerial movement. 470
- Was initially incompatible with Rage Form in the same battle due to Energy Intertwining. 404
Steel Bones
A defensive technique that hardens Infernape's body to steel-like durability. 538 638
- Allows it to take attacks such as Mandibuzz's Brave Bird head-on. 537
- Causes powerful physical strikes against it to rebound with numbing force. 638
Explosive Rage
Deep-crimson flame infused with Anger Energy and explosive properties. 586 589
- Its power rises with Infernape's anger. 589
- Its Thunder Flame Mode application produces a thunderous eruption comparable in grade to Black Flame and Sun Fire. 586
- Can be shaped into a long-range Rage Fire Punch. 537
Focus Energy and Concentrate
A combination of Focus Energy and Calm Mind that improves Infernape's concentration and combat flow. 422 589
- Supports its mental path and Psychic Power development. 216 450
- Provides the control needed for dangerous lightning-based neural stimulation. 450
Morning Peacock
A high-speed punching combination skill performed while using Thunder Flame Mode and the Third Gate. 806
- Uses rapid straight punches and Double Team on its arms to create dozens of simultaneous fist attacks. 806
- Covers the battlefield with red-gold Thunder Flame fist shadows. 806
- Its localized destructive power surpasses Magnezone's Magnetic Meteorite. 806
Life Fire and Overdrive Mode
Life Fire improves Infernape's recovery and physical condition; later, Sacred Ash and the Black and White Dragons' Overdrive method further develop this power. 725 1174
- Life Fire can heal Infernape's own injuries, though it cannot yet be separated for use on others. 1214
- Overdrive violently erupts Thunder Flame Power within its body to strengthen it. 1174
- The method carries extreme risk and repeatedly leaves Infernape near death during training. 1178
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Bone Club — an Alola Marowak Bone Club listed as Infernape's held item. 422
- Thunder Flame Turbine Bracer — a costly bracer that compresses Thunder Flame Energy; individual use can destroy the item. 576
- Imposter Ditto — Infernape's partner, capable of transforming into a turbine bracer and supporting Thunder Flame Mode without side effects. 514 547
- Sacred Ash — used during Life Power and Overdrive special training to restore injuries. 1174 1178
- Z-Crystals and Shining Stone — allows Infernape to use Universal Z-Moves and most attribute Z-Moves. 896 998
Relationships
- Fang Yuan — Trainer. Fang Yuan withdrew from a major tournament for Infernape's health, created its Thunder Flame Mode training plan, and consistently trusts its decisions in battle. 404 840 1053
- Imposter Ditto — Exclusive partner. Ditto transforms into the Thunder Flame Turbine Bracer and trains alongside Infernape to stabilize and strengthen Thunder Flame Mode. 514 547
- Eevee — Rival and teammate. Infernape seeks to surpass Eevee; their tournament battle was fought with mutual respect. 404 557

Trivia
- Infernape was initially limited to using either Rage Form or Thunder Armor in a battle; using both risked immobilizing it for days. 404
- It has memorized type-matchup charts at Fang Yuan's request. 506
- Its strongest trait is repeatedly described as willpower, fighting spirit, and battle-hardened combat awareness. 216 537
- Celebi dislikes treating Infernape because it habitually wins battles while covered in grievous wounds; Victini likes the “victory energy” it produces. 1147
