Westeros Continent.
Ever since King Aegon the Conqueror rode his dragons, along with his sisters and wives, Queen Visenya and Queen Rhaenys, to defeat the Seven Kingdoms.
This continent ushered in unification.
From Aegon's ascension to the throne, it was called the Year of Aegon I, or 1 AC.
With the first year as the dividing line.
Before unification was BC, and after unification was AC.
111 AC.
Early summer, early morning.
The capital of the Westeros Continent, King's Landing.
East of the Red Keep, the walls stand adjacent to the coastline.
Within the walls lies a small garden that outsiders find difficult to approach.
"White Hart, Dirty Handkerchief, Bear in the Sea..."
A boy of five or six, with silver-gold hair and purple eyes, sat leaning against a thick Weirwood tree.
He mumbled to himself out of boredom.
"Another nightmare, it never ends."
His name is Rhaegar Targaryen, a true descendant of True Dragon Bloodline.
His father is Viserys Targaryen, the fifth king of the Westeros Continent.
The owner of the Iron Throne.
"Your Highness Prince Rhaegar, your birthday celebration is about to begin. The Queen is calling for you."
A young maidservant walked over and softly reminded the little prince.
Rhaegar looked up. His face was thin, pale as paper, with dark circles under his large, melancholic eyes.
He looked at the maidservant and said in a low voice, "I told you, I don't like birthday celebrations."
The maidservant clasped her hands and tried to force a smile, "I'm sorry, Your Highness, but the Queen is really calling for you."
"Understood, I'll be there."
Rhaegar nodded, not wanting to trouble the maidservant caught in the middle. Led by her, he got up and entered the Red Keep.
He is King Viserys's first son.
His mother was the late Queen Aemma Arryn, who died in childbirth.
His birthday is also the death anniversary of his birth mother.
So...
I am grateful to the current Queen, Lady Alicent Hightower, for celebrating my birthday every year without fail.
The interior of the Red Keep is vast, magnificent, and solemn.
Arriving at a room on an upper floor, the sound of a child crying could be heard from the open doorway.
Rhaegar gestured for the maidservant to leave and walked to the doorway.
Inside the room, a beautiful young woman in luxurious clothing was holding a crying baby boy.
At her feet, a little girl was drooling over a cake.
Catching sight of Rhaegar's small figure out of the corner of her eye, Alicent immediately turned around and apologized, "Aegon is eyeing your cake. If you didn't come any sooner, I would have had trouble soothing him."
(Note: Westerners tend to name their descendants after their ancestors.)
Rhaegar walked into the room, "It's fine, give it to him if he wants to eat it. How much can he eat?"
"You truly act like an older brother, Rhaegar."
Alicent handed Aegon to a nearby attendant and personally took his small hand, leading him to sit by a low table.
She said solicitously, "Your father is busy with state affairs, and Rhaenyra has run off to play somewhere. I will host your birthday celebration this year."
"Let's blow out the candles and make a wish first."
Rhaegar remained silent.
He obediently blew out the birthday candles, clasped his hands, and closed his eyes.
Suffering from a weak constitution, his personality was rather quiet, and he had always been a person of few words.
Due to the difficult childbirth, even though his birth mother Aemma was forced to have a caesarean section to give birth to him.
It did not grant him a good body.
Before the age of three, he only cried once at birth.
He spent the rest of his time in a coma, sustained by breast milk daily.
The Grand Maester once thought he wouldn't survive "the next day."
Because of this, he also gained the reputation of "One-Day Crown Prince."
Fortunately, he did not die prematurely.
At the age of three, he awoke from his coma under the treatment of a foreign witch.
However, his body was still very weak.
Along with a side effect.
Frequent nightmares.
He would always experience strange and fragmented scenes in his sleep.
There were dragons, flames, war...
In short, it was terrifying.
He would often wake up startled, further weakening his already frail body and leaving him mentally listless for a long time.
"I want to eat, give it to me quickly!"
Suddenly, Aegon's voice rang out, and Rhaegar subconsciously looked up.
Splat--
A chubby little hand plunged into the cake, scattering crumbs as it swung.
A dollop of cream landed squarely on Rhaegar's face.
"Heavens! Keep an eye on Aegon."
Alicent quickly reprimanded the attendant for not watching him properly, then took out a handkerchief to wipe Rhaegar's face, explaining:
"I'm so sorry, Aegon is a naughty monkey. If you don't like the cake, I can have the kitchen make a new one."
Rhaegar enjoyed the Queen's service and calmly replied, "It's alright. My brother likes it, we can share one."
Alicent looked at Rhaegar's composed face, then at Aegon, who was devouring the cake.
For a moment, she couldn't maintain her composure.
Fortunately, a voice broke the awkward atmosphere.
"Queen, the King is discussing your hunt and has asked you to come over."
A knight in silver armor and a white cloak, holding a sword, walked to the doorway and informed them solemnly.
This was a White Knight, one of the King's Kingsguard.
There were seven Kingsguard in total, completely loyal to the King and obeying his every command.
Because they wore white cloaks, they were known as White Knights.
"Alright, I will go."
Alicent gave Rhaegar an apologetic look and said gently, "Your father has called me, and I must go immediately. If there's any gift you want, you can tell me now."
"No."
Rhaegar answered crisply.
Then, as if thinking of something, he added, "If there is anything, I wish I could take less medicine. It's very bitter."
Alicent forced a smile. "That's something you'll have to ask your father about."
With that, she stood up and left with the White Knight.
She did not forget to instruct the attendants to take good care of the princes and princesses and not to let them overeat.
As soon as Alicent stepped out, the little princess, who was sitting aside picking up cake crumbs from the floor, turned her head and looked out the window.
She said nonsensically, "Don't disturb the sleeping beasts."
Rhaegar looked at her strangely.
The little princess was Helaena, Queen Alicent's daughter, and she was two years old.
They did not interact much.
Rumor had it among the attendants that Helaena seemed different from ordinary children.
She always seemed lost in her own world.
She would suddenly utter strange words, appearing rather cryptic.
It seemed the attendants were not wrong.
After Alicent had gone far away, Rhaegar turned his gaze to Aegon, who was heartily enjoying the cake.
"Do you like eating it very much?"
Rhaegar walked over to Aegon and asked softly.
Aegon didn't even look at him, casually scooping a piece of cream and putting it into Helaena's hand before continuing to eat.
Seeing this, Rhaegar curled his lips. "Not forgetting to give your sister a piece of cake, such a good brother. You deserve a reward."
"What?"
Upon hearing "reward," Aegon finally looked at him, his eyes filled with pure foolishness.
"If you like it, eat more. It's all for you."
Rhaegar reached out and touched the back of Aegon's head, aiming it down at the cake on the table and pressing hard.
Bang--
Little Aegon's entire face was shoved into the greasy cake, causing the attendant beside him to gasp.
Helaena watched the scene with curiosity, licking cream with her little tongue.
Rhaegar released Aegon and walked over to her.
He reached out and stroked Helaena's silver hair.
"Prince Rhaegar, please don't do this. The Queen will be angry."
The attendant was greatly alarmed. While wiping the mess off Aegon, she pleaded for the little princess.
Rhaegar ignored her.
He simply ruffled Helaena's little head.
"When you want to eat, you should get it yourself. Don't pick up scraps from the floor or what others give you."
"Brother, hee hee~"
Helaena, not understanding what was happening, clapped her little hands and laughed at Aegon, who was covered in cream from head to toe.
"Silly boy."
Rhaegar withdrew his hand, which he had cleaned of cream, walked around the now wailing Aegon, and left the room.
In the original work, the One-Day Crown Prince was named Baelor, the name of Viserys's father, used in his memory.
In the book, the protagonist is named Rhaegar.
This is because the author doesn't particularly like the name Baelor.
Prince Rhaegar from Game of Thrones, I prefer this title.
