Background / History
The Carp God lived in Spirit Pool County, where local villagers worshipped her at the Carp King Temple. Buddhist monks destroyed the temple and injured her, leaving damaged scales and a wound on her head. Though the villagers pressed her to seek revenge, she agreed to aid Ye Kang simply because she felt that accompanying him was the better choice 303.
She defended Ye Kang when the Ten Buddha Sons denounced both of them for collecting incense, directly confronting their prayer-bead attack in her true form. After the monks were defeated, the villagers rebuilt the Carp King Temple and planned to worship Ye Kang alongside her 305 306.
After becoming dissatisfied with Spirit Pool County and its inhabitants, she asked to travel with Ye Kang. She transformed into a human child to make the journey possible, and Ye Kang accepted her as a friend rather than a spirit pet or servant 337.
While exploring the Luofu Water Tower, she devoured the preserved corpse of the ancient Chongming Fish, another Innate Fortune Seed. The nourishment propelled her across the Life Lotus–Divine Sea divide when she awakened from sleep 496 498. She later accepted pure Dragon Yuan after rejecting the chance to refine pseudo-dragon blood and become a true dragon 600.
The Nine Nether Hall targeted her for her rare Dragon Carp bloodline. Trusting her instincts, she voluntarily went with the snake demons; Ye Kang subsequently confronted the Nine Nether Hall to secure her safety 590 591 593.
Appearance
In her true form, the Carp God is a dark-red Dragon Carp with a dragon-like head, koi body, lustrous scales, and long dragon whiskers. Her humanoid form is that of a young girl in red, though she grows taller as her cultivation advances 337 498 1069.
- Usually wears a red skirt and twin hair buns in human form 337.
- Later appears in a floral quilted jacket when traveling through cold mountain terrain 716.
- Her apparent age changes with her growth, from roughly seven or eight years old to around twelve 337 963.
- Became notably round and heavy after overeating during her Spirit Transmutation breakthrough 663.
Personality
The Carp God is innocent, blunt, and guided almost entirely by instinct. She frequently speaks of herself in the third person and gives simple explanations for decisions that prove remarkably accurate, such as saying that a path or person “feels” better 303 337.
She is unwaveringly loyal once she makes a promise. Although she dislikes the corpse-strewn Misty Land, she remains with Ye Kang because she promised to accompany him 835. She also possesses a firm sense of self: despite the cultivation advantages offered by dragon blood, she refuses to become anything other than a Dragon Carp 600.
Her appetite is extraordinary. Food is among her strongest motivations, from demanding hot meat to consuming vast quantities during breakthroughs 356 663.

- Returns to human form after manifesting her Koi Demon Pillar 498.
