Background / History

The Emperor brought Rowan, an outsider from another universe, into the setting and marked him with a golden Two-Headed Eagle. Rowan later identifies himself as the Emperor’s Contractor, acting alongside Lucia, Leonardo, and Sibyl according to the Emperor’s will. The Emperor also sends omens identifying Rowan as humanity’s hope. 14 30

For ten thousand years, the Emperor has remained upon the Golden Throne. The accumulated faith of humanity grants immense power, but the conflicting beliefs of countless worshippers fracture and overwhelm the Emperor’s consciousness, leaving it unstable and divided into many personality fragments. 30 156

The Emperor directly meets Rowan within a cathedral-like projection after Guilliman’s return. There, the Emperor acknowledges Rowan’s accomplishments and discusses the approaching conflict with the Four Gods of Chaos. 156

When Rowan proposes curing the Emperor after reaching Tier 4, the Emperor refuses. Remaining on the Golden Throne keeps the Emperor poised before full godhood and functions as an amplifier, allowing the Emperor to hold the Chaos Gods’ attention on Terra and contend with them. 157
