Background

Rowan originates from the Foundation Universe and is transported into the Warhammer universe, arriving in the Sol Sector during M41.890. He first appears in an Imperial cargo bay amid a massacre involving Chaos Space Marines and Genestealers, killing a Chaos Space Marine with Reality Warping. 3 4

Because he is not native to the Warhammer universe, Rowan has no Warp presence. This prevents him from sensing or directly wielding Warp currents as a psyker would, but also distinguishes his abilities from psychic powers and Warp sorcery. 12 14

The Emperor identifies Rowan as His Contractor and arranges protection around him through Lucia, Leonardo, and Inquisitor Sibyl. Rowan accepts their cooperation while retaining his own identity as a Reality Warper rather than a Primarch or deity. 14 15

Rowan's long-term objective is to restore rationality and progress to the Imperium rather than preserve its stagnation. He works with Belisarius Cawl, criticizes Imperial inefficiency, and advocates the objective, restrained use of Reality Warping. 79 161

Appearance

Rowan is outwardly ordinary despite his anomalous power; Mechanicus sensors identify no Warp activity, energy anomaly, radiation, or mechanical augmentation. 70 204

  • Tall young man with sharply defined features. 93
  • Slightly wheat-colored skin. 93
  • Amber eyes. 93
  • Often presents himself in deliberately modest or inconspicuous clothing, including the disguise of a palace attendant. 154
  • Can endure vacuum, atmospheric re-entry, and extreme acceleration through Reality Warping rather than innate physical durability. 55 204

Personality

Rowan is calm, practical, and willing to adapt quickly to an unfamiliar and hostile universe. He is capable of caution even when overwhelmingly stronger than ordinary opponents, recognizing that his mortal body remains vulnerable when his focus is divided. 3 20 58 86

He rejects being treated as a god and repeatedly encourages allies to understand his powers as Reality Warping rather than divine miracles. Rowan believes rational understanding stabilizes a Reality Warper's abilities, while faith-based interpretations can introduce unwanted limitations. 79

Despite his often casual manner, Rowan plans strategically on a galactic scale. He prepares defenses for Cadia, seeks Authority for his ascension, and uses political legitimacy to enter Imperial institutions without being excluded as an outsider. 117 154 161

Abilities & Skills

Reality Warping

Rowan alters objective reality through Reality Strength fields rather than Warp-based psychic power. His capabilities depend on his current Reality Strength, perception, understanding, range, and concentration. 8 13 79 92

  • Neutralizes conventional ranged attacks and destroys Chaos Space Marines with created weapon barrages. 6
  • Interferes with Warp jumps and Warp rifts, preventing daemon incursions. 6 7
  • Reshapes matter, including transforming ceramite into Alarius Terminator Armor and creating tools or weapons from surrounding material. 15 70
  • Creates plasma projectiles and materializes weapons in combat. 70 79
  • Can deny the concept of injury, healing his own wounds by removing them from reality. 264
  • Converts and neutralizes the Four Gods of Chaos's attacks, reworking their power into the Emperor's golden light. 268
  • At Tier 4, extends his influence across Mars through prepared amplifiers. 204

Limits

  • His Level 2 state has restricted range and energy output. 7
  • Reality Warping is constrained by what he can perceive or understand. 79 92
  • His physical body is fragile by Reality Warper standards and requires protection when his attention is occupied. 14 58 86
  • Powerful faith and blessings associated with Slaanesh can render his lower-level Reality Warping ineffective. 23

Reality Strength Transfer

Rowan can transfer portions of his Reality Strength to other people, transforming them into weak Reality Warpers. 9 16

  • Elevated Lucia to the standard of a Level One Reality Warper. 9
  • Stabilized Sibyl's uncontrolled psychic condition and granted her limited Reality Warping. 13 16
  • Uses Solomon's Ceremonial Sword to assist others' ascension, including Yarrick. 31 61
  • Transferring Reality Strength consumes Rowan's accumulated growth progress. 9
  • Level One recipients can give their thoughts limited tangible force and are particularly effective against Warp-origin influences, but cannot perform Rowan's material alterations. 16

Spatial Perception

After devouring a C'tan Shard connected to the Void Dragon's Authority, Rowan gains Spatial Perception. 92

  • Perceives objects and targets that would normally be physically obscured or outside his line of sight. 92
  • Removes a major Reality Warper weakness by expanding what he can target with his abilities. 92
  • Distorts the concept of spatial distance to imitate teleportation. 92
  • Detects concealed movement and vital signs in the High Lords' Council Hall. 161
  • Reveals and destroys a Deathmark despite Necron dimensional technology. 92

WAAAGH Field Manipulation

Rowan connects to an Ork WAAAGH field and gains the capacity to intervene in and amplify it through the principle of “I Think.” 58

  • Receives enhanced speed, strength, and vitality comparable to an ordinary power-armored Astartes. 58
  • Recognizes the field as a means of improving physical resilience without splitting his concentration between defense and Reality Warping. 58
  • Selects Yarrick as the ideal human recipient and maintainer of the field's benefits. 58 61

Soul, Faith, and Authority Acquisition

Rowan's ascension requires souls, faith, and Authority. 28 206

  • Requires ten billion souls for his next documented advancement. 28
  • Gains faith on Mars through his identity as the Omnissiah. 206
  • Pursues Authorities from divine and C'tan-related entities, including the Void Dragon's power. 92 157 206
  • Can completely annihilate daemons rather than merely banish them. 28
