Uchiha Itachi walked through the clan compound. The moon in the sky was deathly pale, making it difficult to distinguish the path ahead.
The streetlights on both sides of the road seemed to be malfunctioning, flickering on and off, casting an uncertain, shifting light.
The spots of light, blinking in and out, projected onto the walls, transforming into countless struggling hand shadows.
Only at the end of the street, the white lantern at his doorstep emitted a warm, reddish glow, guiding Uchiha Itachi home.
His footsteps were light, and he returned home full of joy. He reached out to push the door open and stepped inside.
"I'm home!"
"Oh, Onii-chan is back..." Sasuke's voice was somewhat dull. He stood before the entryway with his head lowered.
"Hmm? What's wrong?" Itachi smiled as he changed his shoes. He walked over, reached out to pick up his younger brother, and asked with a laugh, "Did you get scolded by Mom for being naughty again?"
Sasuke kept his head down, burying his face deep into Itachi's chest, and muttered:
"Onii-chan, where is my head?"
"What?" Itachi's entire body shuddered as if struck by lightning; he froze completely.
Sasuke slowly raised his head. Under the dim, yellowish light, Itachi saw clearly that Sasuke was bleeding from his seven orifices. His facial features had been gouged out, leaving only pitch-black holes on his face. He grinned with a bloody mouth that was completely bare, not a single tooth remaining.
"Hey, Onii-chan, where is my head?"
"My head hurts so much!"
"Give my head back to me!"
"My teeth hurt so much!"
"Why can't I see you!"
"No..." Itachi let out a scream and bolted upright in bed, gasping for air.
On the table in front of his bed, Sasuke's head sat perfectly upright, a pair of eyes staring at him with the dull, lifeless gaze of a dead fish.
"Sasuke..." With trembling hands, Itachi picked up Sasuke's head and clutched it tightly to his chest. Tears streamed from his eyes, his voice shattered and barely audible, "I'm sorry..."
In another room not far from him, Obito was also "enjoying" his "sweet dream."
He stood dazed in the middle of an empty field, looking around in confusion. Everything seemed so familiar, yet everything seemed so strange.
But before he could think it over, he heard a familiar voice calling to him from the distance.
"Hey, Obito, over here..."
He looked up and saw Rin skipping in the distance, waving her arms at him with a joyful smile.
"Rin..." A surge of immense joy welled up in Obito's heart. He was so moved that tears were about to fall. He instantly forgot all his doubts and hurried toward her.
However, he had only taken a few steps when a figure flashed before his eyes. A familiar white-haired figure overtook him, reaching Rin's side first.
"Chidori!"
The familiar sphere of lightning, right before Obito's eyes, hissed as it pierced through Rin's body, exiting out the other side.
"No!" Obito let out a scream, rushing forward to knock Kakashi down with a punch before pulling Rin into his arms.
Rin coughed up blood, her eyes filled with disappointment. "Obito, why didn't you save me?"
"Why didn't you save me?"
"Why didn't you save me?"
"No, I wanted to save you, I was just too late..." Obito wept bitterly, his voice choked with sobs as he tried to explain.
"Obito, you truly disappoint me..."
"You truly disappoint me..."
"No!" Obito let out a wail and jolted awake from the nightmare. He stared at the empty room, his mind blank and his senses dull, unable to regain his composure for a long while.
After a long time, he buried his head in his arms and muttered:
"Soon... it will be soon..."
"Rin, rest assured. I will create a world that only has winners, only peace, only love, and no war."
"When that time comes, we will be able to be together forever."
While Uchiha Itachi and Uchiha Obito were plagued by nightmares, Uchiha An, in the distance, gently wiped away the blood tears beneath his right eye. Feeling that unfamiliar ocular power, he curled his lips and began to laugh silently.
Come now, Itachi, Obito, your life in hell has already begun. Enjoy it to the fullest!
Starting today, such nightmares will haunt you incessantly, gradually escalating to constantly challenge the limits of your psychological endurance.
Until death do us part!
Holding such fervent emotions, Uchiha An, carrying his sincere "blessings" for the two, drifted into a deep slumber.
The next day, Uchiha An woke up as usual. After stretching, he went to perform healing on Nagato.
As he made his way up to the top of the high tower, he happened to run into Sasori of the Red Sands and Uchiha Itachi walking from the opposite direction.
Uchiha Itachi's complexion was deathly pale, his face gaunt and sickly, with dark circles under his eyes that made him look like he hadn't slept in days. Seeing this, Uchiha An felt a surge of delight, itching to throw a few more jabs at him.
But ultimately, fearing that Itachi might notice something amiss and ruin his Dojutsu, he kept his mouth shut.
"Hmph!" The two met on the left side of the path, both finding the other an eyesore. They rolled their eyes at each other, and neither willing to yield, they stood in the middle of the road, glaring.
Scorpion, on the other hand, didn't seem to care much about An. Hidden inside that ugly puppet, he nodded at An without a word, then stepped back to clear a path.
An snorted coldly. Without a word, he strode forward, brushing past Itachi.
Itachi's gaze remained locked on An, following him until his figure receded and disappeared into the stairwell. Only then did he slowly retract his gaze, lower his head, and follow Scorpion.
An arrived at the top of the tower, knocked, and entered the room. As usual, he began the healing process for Nagato.
"Itachi and Scorpion have already gone to recruit Kakuzu," Nagato said, taking the initiative. "Although I won't need more power once I recover, his savings are something we desperately need."
"I originally intended to give this job to you. After all, since you provided the intelligence, you surely know his weaknesses best. But since you are currently healing me, I transferred the task to those two."
"I originally wanted you to provide them with some information on Kakuzu, but Itachi refused."
"The hatred between you two is irreconcilable, but until the organization's plan is complete, I will not allow any infighting to occur."
"Yes, yes, yes!" An didn't mention a word about how he had secretly sabotaged Itachi and Obito. He just nodded solemnly, raising his hand like a well-behaved child. "Don't worry, Leader. What I hate most is actually Konohagakure. I want to see Konohagakure destroyed more than anything, so I certainly won't disrupt the organization's plans!"
"That is for the best," Nagato nodded with satisfaction. "As long as I can gather the Ten-Tails, I can use its immense power to suppress all the hidden villages, forcing them to personally experience the pain of war."
"By then, the ninjas of the great nations who have tasted pain will no longer start wars at will, nor will they dare to!"
"Under the light of the gods, there will be no more war or death in this world."
"Ah, absolutely!" Uchiha An channeled his inner sycophant, chiming in enthusiastically, "The Leader is absolutely right!"
"Just like Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Madara—how were they able to end the chaotic era and establish the hidden village system for every nation?"
"Was it not because their military might was so overwhelming that no one could defeat them?"
"They had the potential to bring lasting peace to the ninja world, but their most foolish mistake was not gathering all the villages together to form a unified nation, instead allowing them to split into separate countries."
"The nations already harbored grudges; once those two died, war broke out again immediately."
"Furthermore, they actually divided the nine Tailed Beasts among them, ensuring no single nation had overwhelming power. This ultimately led to endless fighting where no one would submit to the other."
"The Leader must learn from their failures this time!"
"Those nine Tailed Beasts must be under our unified management in the future!"
For the first time in so many years, Nagato had met someone who so thoroughly validated his philosophy, and with such logical reasoning. He immediately felt a greater sense of approval for his companion, Uchiha An, and nodded in satisfaction.
"What you say makes a lot of sense."
"If all nations were merged and unified, everyone would be part of the same family, and naturally, war would not break out."
"I will carefully consider your suggestion."
"However, there is a task for you right now."
"Some annoying insects have arrived outside; they should be scouts sent by Konohagakure. You are the most familiar with Konoha Ninja, so go and clear them all out!"
