Background

Shinichi graduated as Konoha’s undisputed top student and was assigned to Team 1 under Yamato alongside Kobayashi Ken and Sato Yu. At the time, he already specialized in three chakra natures, used advanced ninjutsu, and preferred efficient training over emotional displays 6 7.

He initially kept his newly awakened Wood Release secret. Yamato’s presence particularly interested him because Shinichi recognized Yamato as another Wood Release user, though Yamato’s power came from Hashirama-cell transplantation rather than a natural awakening 6 7 41.

After Root repeatedly attempted to seize and control him, including an attempt by Yamanaka Fū to possess his body, Shinichi became openly distrustful of Konoha’s justice system and resolved to handle threats against himself personally 27 32 33. Shinichi is calm, terse, and intensely self-directed. He dislikes trouble, meaningless passion, and being told how to live; his stated ambition is to gain enough strength to choose his own life freely 7 155.
