Duanmu Huai helped Yargard break the Magical Elves’ hold over Paretia, then crossed the Northern Lands and helped defeat the Demon King. After returning to the Inquisition, he entered a challenge world to retrieve Buddhist scriptures with Sun Wukong, leaving the pair on their journey after killing a Fox Spirit.

• Yargard renounced his Elf Contract, but the Magical Elves corrupted the nobles and soldiers after the Great Barrier was activated, forcing Duanmu Huai to fight them and help Yargard pursue reforms.
• Duanmu Huai defeated Aura and Solitair, then gave Yargard the Rosary Beads before heading north with Okegis and True Clever toward the Demon King’s Castle.
• Duanmu Huai explored the Great Labyrinth with Himmel’s party and Frieren, learned human magic, and destroyed a mountain range with Psychic Power.

Duanmu Huai and Sun Wukong traveled west, killing demons and confronting the Buddhist figures whose agents had harmed mortals. After Duanmu Huai destroyed Spirit Mountain and defeated Tathagata, he learned that Shepard’s brother was trapped aboard a Space Hulk and agreed to investigate.

• Duanmu Huai and Sun Wukong rescued the Third Princess of Baoxiang Kingdom, then Duanmu Huai killed the demons at Lanruo Temple and helped the murdered King of Wuji Kingdom reclaim his throne.
• Duanmu Huai killed the Three Great Immortals of Chechi Kingdom, the Great Inspiration King, and Laozi’s Azure Ox, while Sun Wukong recovered the stolen treasures.
• Duanmu Huai rescued Golden Saint Palace Consort from Sai Tai Sui, killed Guanyin’s escaped Golden Haired Hou, and punched Flame Mountain into a crater.
• Duanmu Huai flattened Lion Camel Ridge and Lion Camel Kingdom, then killed Manjusri and Samantabhadra when they arrived to defend their mounts.

Duanmu Huai led the Inquisition through battles against the Dark Eldar, Chaos forces, and Tyranids, destroying infected worlds and pursuing threats across strange realms. After reaching a Fragment World, he rescued survivors and brought them aboard his train, while a separate narrator underwent hospital tests and treatment.

• Duanmu Huai rescued Shepard’s younger brother from a Space Hulk, then traced Dark Eldar attacks to Commorragh and led an assault through the Webway gate.
• Duanmu Huai destroyed Commorragh after Clive threatened the Systems Alliance Homeworld with a lethal virus, then exterminated the infected Homeworld despite Kelte’s protests.
• Duanmu Huai answered Rumiere’s call for help, ambushed the World Eaters and Emperor’s Children, and destroyed Lucius the Eternal before turning toward Fulgrim.
• Duanmu Huai investigated GOTT Headquarters with Eclair and Rumiere, discovered a Genestealer infestation and a Tyranid hive ship, and destroyed the star territory to stop the swarm.
• Duanmu Huai and his companions escaped through a Soul Resonance gate into a Fragment World, where he battled monsters and searched for the world’s core.

After recovering from diabetes treatment, Duanmu Huai confronted the Salvation Army’s mutants, ended the shadow threat on Hito Island, and began a new trial that led him into a conflict among supernatural factions. The stretch ended with Maria attempting to link Naruse Mio’s soul to Duanmu Huai, triggering a strange mark on Mio.

• The narrator left the hospital, returned home, and decided to exercise by riding a bicycle while Takagi Saya’s group joined Duanmu Huai aboard the train.
• During the Blood Moon, zombies attacked the train, and Duanmu Huai later accepted a mission to clear an Oil Depot for a settlement.
• Greenskins attacked the settlement with miniature nuclear bombs, badly wounding Mary, and Duanmu Huai rescued the survivors before tracking the mutants to their Salvation Army camp.
• Duanmu Huai investigated the Salvation Army’s plan to sacrifice Ellie for a vaccine, then sent Sherry and the Night Watch to suppress the group and create an antidote named Ellie.
• Duanmu Huai and Mary traveled to Hito Island, where they fought shadows and discovered that a Great Old One beneath the island was causing the time loops.
• Duanmu Huai killed the Great Old One, gained Past Sight and Shadow Clone, and began an enhancement trial requiring him to transform divine servants.
• Duanmu Huai killed Lena Li after she led him into an ambush, then rejected Rias Gremory’s offer to reincarnate him as a demon servant.
