Duanmu Huai tracked a self-aware C'tan across worlds, sealed it in the Nichirin Sword, and built the Inquisition into a force capable of fighting wars across the galaxy. After defeating threats and imposing the Inquisition’s rule on Iksforia, he became the target of the Demon King’s forces when a Prophet recognized him.

Arc 69Dragons and the C’tan

Duanmu Huai investigated the Demon Mansion, helped Toyokawa Sachiko and her former bandmates resolve their troubles, and promoted his film before entering a mirrored world to hunt dragons. He destroyed the Royal Capital while fighting Altimatia, discovered a C’tan instead of the Dragon God, and decided to seek another route home.

  • Duanmu Huai took Ya Naijian and Chitanda to the Demon Mansion, where they became trapped in a hospital Remembrance and he uncovered the psychic passage that led into Warp Space.
  • Duanmu Huai helped Takamatsu Tomori understand Toyokawa Sachiko’s departure, urged Sachiko to reconcile with her former bandmates, and arranged for Sachiko’s father to work off his debt.
  • Duanmu Huai and his companions watched Tomori’s new band perform, then he promoted their film and returned to Warp Space to investigate its effects.
  • Duanmu Huai found a mausoleum bearing Freyja and Norn’s names, while Kurokawa Akane accepted their offer of power in exchange for bearing Duanmu Huai’s children.

Arc 70Inquisitor and the C'tan

Duanmu Huai formed Inquisitor and used its performances to draw the self-aware C'tan into a fixed identity, then defeated its attempt to take over his image. After disbanding the band, he pursued the C'tan to another world and joined forces with Symphogear fighters, ending up at Saint Symphogear Academy with Kurokawa Akane.

  • Duanmu Huai formed Inquisitor with Toyokawa Sachiko, Kurokawa Akane, Hachiman Mirin, and Wakaba Mutsumi, then recruited Yo Rona and led the band to a startling debut that made its songs famous.
  • Duanmu Huai challenged Wakaba Mutsumi to consider her own feelings apart from Toyokawa Sachiko, and the strain between the girls came into the open before Mutsumi chose to stay at SPACE.

Arc 71The Stage and the War

Duanmu Huai and Kurokawa Akane defeated the Giraffe’s stage and escaped the world of Saint Song, after which Akane joined the Inquisition. Duanmu Huai then led the Inquisition through a war near the Eye of Terror and launched an assault on an Eldar Ark, where he faced Kaine.

  • Duanmu Huai and Kurokawa Akane rescued Yukine Chris, then Duanmu Huai confronted the Giraffe and disrupted its Stage of Destiny before defeating Ōba Nana and warning the students against its promises.
  • When Shirai Hili opened the Babylonian Treasury and unleashed the Noise, Duanmu Huai sealed the C'tan in the Nichirin Sword while Kurokawa Akane destroyed the Giraffe’s stage and Phantom.

Arc 72The Inquisition’s Crusade

Duanmu Huai destroyed threats to the Inquisition, then joined Rista to defeat the Demon King and impose the Inquisition’s rule on Iksforia. The Demon King’s forces began hunting Duanmu Huai after the Prophet recognized him.

  • Duanmu Huai killed Kaine, destroyed the Eldar Ark, and kept its last surviving Eldar alive as part of his plan to awaken Ynnead.
  • Duanmu Huai uncovered corrupted supplies and a God of Shattering outbreak, destroyed the machine, and gave Dadanier Reality Stabilizing Anchors before agreeing to help Frieren’s world.
