Background / History
The Fortiers originated on Krypton and developed a complete civilization over 100,000 years. After advancing into interstellar travel, they used stargates to establish more than one hundred colony planets across tens of light-years. Their homeworld remained a restored, heavily managed ecological world rather than a planet destroyed by core eruption. 3
During the Empire’s Great Expansion Era, Fortier forces unified the Pan-Whirlpool Galaxy and spread into extragalactic systems. Expansion later halted after conflicts with the Guardians of the Universe, the discovery of a genetic weakness, and other crises. 191 246 259
A great social upheaval roughly a thousand years before the main story replaced natural reproduction with Gene Modulation. This transformation created the modern system of genetically planned citizens and centralized social order, while elevating the families associated with the Council of Truth, the Zods, and House of El. 70 81 192
The Empire was devastated when the Death Titan used the Mind Stone’s genetic-rewriting power to turn Imperial citizens and the Capital Star Legion against it. The Capital Star was destroyed, the central government collapsed, and the Empire lost seventy percent of its colonial territory and population during the war’s first year. 9 175
For ten years, surviving colonial legions fought independently or under the Temporary Legion Committee while concentrating civilians and forces in yellow-dwarf systems. After receiving Aeo Zod’s signal and learning that the Codex of Life survived, the remnants began reuniting under his command. 175
Aeo later established a Martian outpost, restarted the Genesis Vault, pursued the recovery of hidden Imperial gene facilities, and formally placed all surviving colonies and legions under military Supreme Command. 181 192 194
Government and Society
| Institution | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| Council of Truth | Internal affairs, new citizens, and planetary management. |
| Military Department | External wars, colonization, and military protection; formerly led by Dru Zod. |
| Science and Technology Institute | Development, maintenance, and research of Imperial technology; formerly led by Jor-El. |
| Imperial Supreme Council | Highest authority jointly composed of the three major institutions. 3 9 |
The Empire traditionally had no emperor and was governed through this decentralized three-party system. Following the destruction of the central institutions, Aeo declared military rule, ordering every colony and legion to obey Supreme Command without question. 3 194
Gene Modulation
Every Fortier is shaped by inherited genes intended to develop specialized talents. Children of warriors commonly develop warrior potential, while descendants of scientists tend toward scientific aptitude; these inherited advantages guide social placement rather than absolutely preventing other occupations. 3
Talent Awakening marks the stage when a citizen’s inherited specialization begins manifesting. Earlier awakening is treated as an indicator of greater potential and earns greater Imperial investment. 4
Gene Modulation also reinforces loyalty, obedience, and social order. This system made rebellion rare for centuries, but left the population exceptionally vulnerable when the Mind Stone rewrote their Gene Codes and turned citizens against the Empire. 3 175 192
Capabilities and Resources
Fortier Physiology
Fortiers are superhuman warriors whose cells can release immense energy, especially under favorable stellar conditions. Imperial soldiers operate in vacuum, conduct high-speed aerial combat, and can overwhelm many conventional superhuman opponents. 5 192 240
- Yellow-sun radiation enhances Fortier power, though an energy simulator is less effective than natural solar radiation. 5
- Documented abilities among Imperial personnel include flight, super strength, heat vision, and freezing Super Breath. 80 90 240
- Soldiers can fight and maneuver in space; experienced Legion warriors are considerably more capable than the still-developing Aeo. 192
- Fortier cells can resist certain psychic or freezing effects through spontaneous energy release. 230
Interstellar Technology
The Empire possesses technology far beyond Earth’s capabilities, including:
- Stargates — developed by the Science and Technology Institute to leave their home galaxy and establish colonies. 3
- Starships and warships — including distorted-flight craft, Alpha-class warships, transport ships, reconnaissance vessels, and capital ships. 3 80 247
- Planetary engineering — terrain and climate modification machines capable of reshaping planetary environments. 3
- Smart terminals and nano-projection systems — advanced artificial intelligences, holographic data systems, translators, and command networks. 7 73 179
- Dimensional defenses — dimensional calibrators prevent hostile teleportation into Imperial ships, while dimensional walls and thought-jamming devices restrain extradimensional or psychic detainees. 207 208
- Genesis Vaults — gene banks and cultivation systems capable of producing new Imperial citizens; one recovered vault contains gene infants that can remain in stasis for 10,000 Earth years. 81 181
Military Organization
The Imperial Military was responsible for expansion, colonization, and external defense. Before the Death Titan incident, the Empire fielded thirteen colonial legions and millions of warriors. 3 193
- Imperial warriors are genetically cultivated for combat and trained for coordinated squad operations. 4 284
- The Empire’s surviving legions include the intact Third Legion and remnants of the Fifth, Ninth, Eleventh, Twelfth, and Thirteenth Legions. 193
- The Fifth Legion is associated with Deputy Commander Faora, while the Fourth Squadron was led by Muriel during the Mars deployment. 192 193
- The Empire’s military culture prioritizes obedience, sacrifice, and the continuation of Fortier civilization. 192
Strategic Assets
- Power Stone / Codex of Life — The Codex of Life is the disguise of the Power Stone, described as the true source of Fortier power. It is tied to the Empire’s historic shift to Gene Modulation, but even Fortiers cannot fully control it. 9 70
- Mind Stone Scepter — Seized from the Death Titan’s forces and studied by Cassio’s team. Its energy can rewrite DNA, alter lifeforms, and enable control through inserted genetic instructions. 175
- Genesis Gene Technology — Restricted technology used to create and preserve Fortier citizens. Aeo reopened its research to restore the Empire’s population and address the species’ weaknesses. 176 223
- Mars Outpost — A forward base established after the Empire’s withdrawal from Earth, used for construction, gene-bank protection, and military operations. 192 245
- Imperial spacecraft S-3860 — An ancient, unregistered House of El transport ship concealed on Earth with stasis pods, gene infants, and interstellar armor. 80 81
Weaknesses
- Psychic manipulation — Fortiers are highly vulnerable to illusions, mental interference, and mind control. This weakness was severe enough to end the Empire’s outward expansion and enabled the Death Titan’s attack. 77 176 259
- Rigid social conditioning — The Empire’s devotion to order left its forces unprepared to fight former comrades after the Mind Stone-induced defections. 175 308
- Population loss — Gene-created citizens require time, resources, education, and secure cultivation facilities; the Empire cannot immediately replace wartime casualties. 174 223
- Extradimensional targets — Without suitable equipment, Imperial attacks have limited effectiveness against beings such as Dormammu. 291
Relationships
- Aeo Zod — Current highest Military Leader and effective supreme leader after the Imperial center’s destruction; he centralizes the surviving Empire under military command. 166 174 194
- Dru Zod — Former highest Military Leader and Aeo’s father; he prepared Aeo to preserve and eventually restore the civilization during the Battle of Krypton. 4 9
- Faora — Deputy Commander, leader within the surviving military, and Aeo’s principal executor in reconstruction, colonization, and military operations. 175 193
- Cassio — Military scientist assigned to establish the Genesis Vault and investigate Genesis Gene Technology and the Mind Stone’s effects. 175 176
- House of El — One of the three great families; its hidden spacecraft and smuggled Genesis Genes suggest a long-running secret agenda outside Imperial law. 80 81 181
- Death Titan — Primary enemy responsible for the Capital Star’s fall, mass genetic corruption, and the loss of most Imperial colonies. 9 175
- Green Lantern Corps — Historic enemy whose conflict with the Empire helped end the Great Expansion Era; renewed contact occurs after the Empire establishes itself near Mars. 191 192
- Olympus and Asgard — Rival divine powers alternately negotiating with, threatening, or opposing the Empire as it operates in the Nine Realms. 208 215 285
Story Role / Major Arcs
Fall of Krypton
The Empire’s apparent stability ends when the Capital Legion mutinies under the Death Titan’s influence. Dru Zod entrusts Aeo with the completed life code and the Power Stone, hoping he can preserve the Fortier civilization. 9
Exile and Survival
Aeo reaches Earth and spends years accumulating solar energy, studying local factions, and preparing for the Empire’s possible return. 10 14
Reconnection and Reconstruction
Surviving Imperial forces locate Aeo, recognize him as General, and deliver the history of the Empire’s ten-year war. He reclaims the Codex of Life, restarts the Genesis Vault, and launches research into the Mind Stone. 166 175 176
Martian Outpost
The Empire withdraws from Earth’s immediate sphere and establishes a fortified outpost on Mars. This brings it into direct contact with the Green Lantern Corps and positions the Empire to recover its strength. 191 192
Military Centralization
After learning the scale of Imperial losses and rebel activity, Aeo orders the surviving legions to place all colonial worlds under Supreme Command. The traditional balance between the Council of Truth, military, and Science and Technology Institute is replaced by military rule. 193 194
