Structure and Travel
- The spatial barriers between the realms are unusually fragile. Their nine planets align in a straight line every five thousand years 98.
- Earth contains numerous spatial anchor points, leaving it exposed to creatures from other dimensions 93.
- Asgard uses the Bifrost for rapid travel and as a potentially devastating weapon 98 259.
- During Olympian rule, teleportation temples linked Olympus to subordinate realms and carried divine decrees across great distances 226.
- The realms’ unusual spatial conditions helped their former ruling races develop advanced spatial technologies 358.
Rule and Protection
Olympus ruled the Nine Realms before Ragnarok. Its decline—marked by the loss of most of its subjects and subordinate gods—preceded Asgard’s rise under Odin 212 213 358.
Asgard subsequently claimed authority over the realms, while agreements with powerful local guardians limited its freedom to intervene in their worlds. In those worlds, guardians held the primary right to handle local affairs 77 170.
An ancient Sacred Alliance also bound the gods to set aside their disputes when an external force threatened the Nine Realms. Athena credits it with preventing the Guardians of the Universe from establishing a foothold there 215. Olympus invokes the alliance when seeking to admit the Fortier Empire through a marriage alliance, a move that intensifies its dispute with Asgard 217 261.
