Background / History

A later account identifies Hua Dou as the third reincarnation of a being who had previously passed through the Animal Path as a Spirit Eagle. In this human life, he accumulated Merit by saving lives and healing the injured. His True Spirit would later reincarnate as Kong Qiu, who established Confucianism. 198 201

Hua Dou initially appeared as a frail-looking elderly mystic: thin, sallow, stooped, and constantly coughing while traveling with a lame donkey. Despite this appearance, he possessed medical knowledge, Spiritual Power, and mysterious purple light within his body. 167

After healing Ji Chang, Hua Dou followed the rabbit born from the remnant soul and purple energy involved in that treatment. The rabbit became his long-term companion, later known as the White Rabbit Medicine King. 167 170

Hua Dou often assumes the appearance of an elderly physician, although cultivation briefly restores him to a younger, vigorous body with a faint purple glow beneath his skin. 167 170

He is hostile toward demonic cultivation, particularly the refining of souls and exploitation of Killing Qi. Even when outnumbered, he condemns demon cultivators for corrupting others and using living souls as materials. 172 173

After defeating the Purple-Eyed Toad, Hua Dou discovers that the purple light in his Dantian can absorb external qi. He spends seven years cultivating on Cloud Break Mountain, gains a nebular Dantian, regains fragments of memory, and begins openly protecting civilians from demonic beasts. 168 170
