Background / History

Birth in Chaos

Pangu began as a weak soul in boundless Chaos. Chaos Origin Qi gathered around it into a cocoon, which shattered to reveal Pangu in an Innate Dao Body; the fragments formed a lotus platform as earth, water, wind, and fire first emerged around him 1.

He inherited knowledge that he had been born to break open Chaos, though he did not initially understand why or how. He also learned that the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods each controlled one of the Great Dao's laws, while his own destined path was the Law of Power 1.

While travelling through Chaos, Pangu refined a Chaos Stone with Chaos Origin Fire and Great Dao Runes. The resulting gray axe led him to recognize his affinity with power and became the foundation of his Sky-Opening weapon 1.

Cang Dui and the Sky-Opening Axe

Pangu's first major opponent was Cang Dui, a colossal nine-headed, nine-tailed dragon whose tails wielded Yin Yang, the Five Elements, wind, and thunder. Cang Dui's Origin Ice and nine divine abilities pushed Pangu into a prolonged battle 2.

After comprehending the Rule of Strength and refining Cang Dui's remains, Pangu obtained the Nine Revolutions Golden Body technique and forged a stronger axe. He named it Sky Opening 2.

Conflict with the Chaos Demon Gods

Pangu met Xuanhuang and exchanged Dao teachings with him. Their friendly battle helped Pangu temper his Law of Strength, beginning a long association between the two 3.

As Chaos Demon Gods sought the Great Dao by killing the Chosen One, Pangu defeated challengers, absorbed their Primordial Violet Qi through the Chaos Green Lotus, and survived the Nine Bends Yellow Springs Great Formation with Xuanhuang's assistance 4 6.

Pangu broke the formation's core by unleashing the three forms of Sky Opening, severely injuring himself in the process. The battle nevertheless stabilized his cultivation at the peak of the Primordial Saint realm 6 7.

Defiance of the Great Dao

The Great Dao ordered Pangu to eliminate Xuanhuang in order to prove the Great Dao. Pangu refused to kill his longtime companion and tore out and destroyed half of his own Primordial Spirit while resisting the Great Dao's influence 9.

Malevolent qi subsequently took shape as Demonic Pangu, an evil duplicate sharing Pangu's Rule of Strength. Pangu recognized that their conflict was part of an illusion and dissipated Demonic Pangu through his realization that the duplicate existed only because Pangu himself did 10.

War for Sky Opening

After comprehending the Dao under Xuanhuang's protection for ten thousand eight thousand years, Pangu announced himself as the Primordial Heavenly King. He declared his intent to open heaven and earth, settle his karma with every Chaos Demon God, and prove the Great Dao 14.

Pangu entered Great Immortal Yang Mei's Grand Formation of the Myriad Stars and endured stellar attacks, the Myriad Stars Grinding Mill, and World-Ending Divine Lightning. The Chaos Green Lotus absorbed the lightning and the shattered world, becoming a world embryo 18 20.

Severely weakened afterward, Pangu was suppressed beneath mountain ranges by Xuanwu. Xuanhuang borrowed the Chaos Green Lotus's power to free him, allowing Pangu to resume battle against Dao Lord Lu Ya and Yang Mei 21 22.

Pangu ultimately unleashed the Three Sky-Opening Axes against Yang Mei, destroying the Chaos Willow Tree and further advancing the world's evolution 25.

Sky Opening, Legacy, and Rebirth

Pangu later chose to use the Three Corpses Severing method against Demonic Pangu. Demonic Pangu wielded Pangu's Sky-Opening Axe to split Chaos into pure Yang Qi and turbid Yin Qi, opening heaven and earth before transforming into the landscape of the Primordial Era 27.

The Primordial World was subsequently described as being formed from Pangu's body: his eyes became the sun and moon, his blood became rivers and seas, his spine became Mount Buzhou, and his malevolent energy gathered into the Netherworld Blood Sea 27 62.

Before a later great tribulation, Pangu resolved to use his true self for Sky Opening and entrusted his Primordial Spirits to Xuanhuang. His good corpse later opened a new world adjacent to the Primordial Era 80 91.

During an invasion of dark creatures, the Hunyuan Daoist merged with the green lotus, enabling Pangu's rebirth. Pangu emerged from nine-colored light, called himself Cang Tian, and vowed to kill Ming Tian and evolve his Dao 338.

Appearance

Pangu originally appeared as an immense humanoid Innate Dao Body, three thousand six hundred feet and fifty zhang tall, standing upon the Chaos Green Lotus amid gray Chaos airflow 1.

  • Muscles are described as balanced mountains, with prominent veins and an exceptionally robust physique 1.
  • His body gained a metallic luster through the Nine Revolutions Golden Body Art 2.
  • After refining Yin Yang energy, his left eye shone like the sun and his right eye resembled the moon 13.
  • He can enlarge himself through Dharma Heaven Dharma Earth to match colossal opponents 2 7.

Personality

Pangu is proud, direct, and intensely combative. He regards himself as the first being in Chaos and meets overwhelming odds without retreating, openly challenging groups of Chaos Demon Gods despite his injuries 6 7.

His pursuit of strength does not erase his compassion. He refuses the Great Dao's command to kill Xuanhuang, accepts the possibility of failing to prove his Dao if Yang Mei's plan could save more beings, and seeks to save rather than merely destroy Demonic Pangu 9 10 15.

Over time, Pangu becomes more reflective about fate, creation, and the cost of his role. Following his long seclusion, his former domineering aura is replaced by a calm and peaceful disposition 14 26.

Abilities & Skills

Law of Power / Rule of Strength

Pangu's core Dao is the Law of Power, which he identifies as his path toward Sainthood. He develops it through direct physical struggle, axe techniques, and repeated confrontations with stronger or faster enemies 1 2 8.

  • Wraps his fists in the Rule of Strength to damage formation artifacts and clash with Great Dao power 6.
  • Breaks divine abilities and formations through raw force, including Yang Mei's space and Lu Ya's sword formation 9 23.
  • His power is especially effective against physical and structural targets, but enemies using superior speed can prevent him from landing attacks 7 23.

Nine Revolutions Chaos Golden Body Art

Pangu acquired Cang Dui's body-refining technique, which combines the Primordial Spirit and physical body rather than separating them 2.

  • Refines impurities from his Chaos Demon God body and continually reinforces his physique 2.
  • Grants immense durability; his body is stated to endure a strike from the Sky-Opening Axe without damage when the axe is not empowered by Dao power 4.
  • Makes most Primordial Spirit-targeting divine abilities ineffective because his spirit and body are closely linked 23.
  • Has limits: the backlash from the full Three Sky-Opening Axes can crack his body and shatter part of his arm, while Great Dao-level forces can overwhelm its recovery 6 21.

Three Sky-Opening Axes

Pangu's signature combat art consists of three successive axe forms: Sky Opening, Earth Splitting, and Sky Rend 6.

  • Sky Opening — A decisive opening strike used to destroy defenses and break through opposing forces 6 23.
  • Earth Splitting — The second form, capable of killing or severely injuring Chaos Demon Gods 7.
  • Sky Rend — A simple but powerful axe strike that destroys light-based attacks, tears through formations, and shatters space 4 18.
  • Using all three at full power causes severe physical backlash due to the burden placed on Pangu's body 6.

Dharma Heaven Dharma Earth

Pangu can expand his body to confront giant enemies directly 2.

  • Used to avoid being physically overwhelmed by Cang Dui 2.
  • Used again to match the Great Dao Incarnation's size before their battle 7.

Yin Yang Body and Divine Eyes

After refining Yin Yang energy, Pangu's Primordial Spirit and body became capable of separating clear Yang from turbid Yin and evolving all things 13.

  • His left and right eyes contain the Yin Yang spheres, producing sun-like and moon-like divine light 13.
  • The transformation gives his body a direct affinity with the differentiation of heaven and earth 13.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sky-Opening Axe — Pangu's primary weapon, forged by refining Chaos Stone and Cang Dui's remains; it carries the Rule of Strength and is used to execute the Three Sky-Opening Axes 1 2 6.
  • Chaos Green Lotus — His companion Chaos Supreme Treasure. It protects him from Origin Ice, absorbs Chaos energy and Primordial Violet Qi, and later absorbs World-Ending Divine Lightning and a shattered world to become a world embryo 1 4 20.
  • Yin Yang Spheres — Refined into Pangu's eyes, giving them sun-and-moon-like divine radiance 13.

Relationships

  • Xuanhuang — Closest friend and fellow Chaos being. They discuss the Dao, fight together against formations and hostile Chaos Demon Gods, and Pangu refuses the Great Dao's command to kill him 3 6 9.
  • Cang Dui — A nine-headed Chaos dragon defeated by Pangu. Pangu refined its body, inherited its body-refining art, and used its remains in forging Sky Opening 2.
  • Demonic Pangu — Pangu's malevolent duplicate, born from evil qi and half of his Primordial Spirit. Pangu seeks to save him, but Demonic Pangu later opens heaven and earth before transforming into the Primordial Era's landscape 10 27.
  • Great Dao — The force that assigned Pangu his fate as sky-opener and later commanded him to kill Xuanhuang. Pangu repeatedly questions and resists its control over his destiny 1 9 26.
  • Great Immortal Yang Mei — A major adversary who organizes the Grand Formation of the Myriad Stars and attempts to suppress or destroy Pangu. Pangu eventually destroys Yang Mei's Chaos Willow Tree 14 18 25.
  • Dao Lord Lu Ya — An opponent whose speed-based sword attacks exploit Pangu's difficulty in striking fast enemies 22 23.
  • Lei Ze — Initially attacks Pangu with Divine Lightning, then mistakenly concludes that Pangu must be a good person because he withstands it 10.
