History

Saul defected from the Marines after rescuing Nico Olvia from Marineford's temporary prison; the two subsequently fled separately. Two months after his defection, he reached Ohara and met Olvia's daughter, Nico Robin. 51

When the Buster Call approached Ohara, Saul warned Robin that the Navy intended to exterminate the island's scholars and urged her to conceal her status as an archaeologist. He built a raft to flee with her, but remained behind to protect her when the evacuation ship rejected her. 58

Saul confronted his former friend Kuzan after Sakazuki destroyed Ohara's civilian evacuation ship. While fleeing with Robin, he was frozen by Kuzan's Ice Age; Lucifer secretly recovered the ice sculpture, allowing the HIA to thaw and treat Saul. He was reunited with Olvia and the rescued Ohara scholars at the Sky Fortress. 59

Personality

Saul is protective of Robin and openly condemns the Marines' conduct during the Buster Call. Even while facing Kuzan, he placed Robin's survival above his own and urged her to keep living rather than look back at Ohara. 58 59

He later accepts the HIA's unification program as inevitable, but prefers a decisive challenge over a prolonged conflict that would spill giant blood. 242
