Background / History

Spandine commanded the CP9 force deployed to Ohara during the Buster Call. After landing at Ohara’s harbor, he ordered the operation forward, with CP9 agents moving to arrest every scholar at the Tree of Knowledge. He viewed the mission as an opportunity for another promotion. 58

During the bombardment of Ohara, Spandine attempted to take Nico Olvia away but was forced to retreat when the shelling endangered his own party. He abandoned Olvia rather than remain on the island. 58

Following the destruction of Ohara, Spandine requested that the recovered Poneglyph be taken to Mary Geoise. His role in the Buster Call earned him a promotion to Deputy Commander of CP0, where he assumed responsibility for intelligence related to Impel Down, Golden Lion, and Red Count Red. 59 62

Personality

Spandine is openly ambitious and treats major operations as opportunities for advancement, complaining about the inconvenience of the Ohara assignment while anticipating a promotion upon its completion. 58

He is also opportunistic in intelligence operations. Upon learning that Impel Down’s Hell Special Operations Unit was pursuing Red Count Red, he ordered CP agents to shadow the force and seize Red Count if both sides were weakened. 62

Ohara Buster Call

Spandine leads CP9’s landing force at Ohara and directs the arrest of the island’s scholars. CP9 personnel under the operation search the Tree of Knowledge and escort Professor Clover and other archaeologists away. 58

When the Buster Call bombardment begins, he orders a retreat and leaves Nico Olvia behind. 58

Post-Ohara Poneglyph Recovery

After the fire, Spandine’s CP9 unit returns to Ohara with Sakazuki’s Marines. He requests that the excavated Poneglyph be transported to Mary Geoise. 59

CP0 Intelligence Operations

As CP0’s deputy commander, Spandine receives intelligence on Impel Down’s operation against Red Count Red. He dispatches two teams to follow the pursuit force and exploit any mutual losses. 62
