Background

Yulistin grew up as a beggar, regularly uncertain whether he would have food for his next meal. His childhood poverty drove his determination to become rich. He was trained by a powerful but unnamed master, who taught him his marksmanship and Observation Haki before dying; Yulistin witnessed this master destroy a warship with a single shot. 85

He became a bounty hunter because it paid far better than the Marines. His reputation in the Grand Line earned him the title Ghost Sniper, as targets supposedly died without ever learning where the fatal shot came from. 84 85

Yulistin targeted Shirakawa for his bounty, but a sudden storm disrupted the assassination and left him captured by Jola and Riddell. He initially refused Shirakawa's recruitment offer on the grounds that he was a pirate hunter, but immediately accepted once promised a salary. 84 85

After joining, he agreed to teach Jola Observation Haki in exchange for Jola teaching him Armament Haki. He and Jola also trained Riddell in both forms of Haki. 85

When the Silver Pirate Group disbanded, Yulistin became a wanderer seeking strong opponents. During the following years, he gained the name Grim Reaper, again for killing opponents before they understood how they had been attacked. 184 210

Personality

Yulistin is pragmatic, composed, and sharply observant. His difficult upbringing made money his primary motivation, and he openly values wealth above prestige; he rejected Marine recruitment because its salary was too low. 85

Although usually calm under pressure, he becomes reckless and easily angered when gambling or when he believes he is being cheated. His gambling habit repeatedly resurfaces in places such as Rainland and Golden City. 163 356
