Background / History
Shirakawa initially claimed to have completely lost his memories. After surviving Buggy’s attack with a transparent barrier and manifesting the Sword of Damocles, he concluded that he had inherited the King of Silver’s power. Gol D. Roger accepted him into the Roger Pirates as an apprentice. 3
Under Silvers Rayleigh, Shirakawa trained his stamina, physical strength, Haki control, and swordsmanship. His regenerative power allowed him to endure unusually harsh training, though severe injuries consumed substantial stamina and still caused pain. 7 8 12
After leaving the Roger Pirates, Shirakawa attempted to sail independently from Jaya on a small fishing boat. A storm forced him to abandon the vessel and fly to Visalia Island, where he began living apart from Roger’s crew. 60
Appearance
Shirakawa is a pale, silver-haired young man whose gentle and notably handsome features make him appear unlike a typical pirate. His appearance led some early observers to dismiss him as a frail “pretty boy.” 3 4
- Silver-white hair. 3
- Gentle, refined facial features; Shirakawa considers himself handsome. 4
- Initially appears thin or physically unthreatening despite his strength. 3 161
- Wore a mask throughout a later five-year period, earning the epithet White Devil. 208
Personality
Shirakawa is intensely ambitious and trains with extreme persistence. During his time with the Roger Pirates, he trained so relentlessly that crewmates rarely saw him sleep; his regenerative constitution kept him from collapsing under the regimen. 48
He is prideful and enjoys recognition for his appearance, strength, and weapons. He was dissatisfied with the “Great Sword” epithet and later wanted the world to know he possessed a Supreme Great Fast Sword. 57 137
In combat, Shirakawa can be merciless. He killed Akda after refusing the general’s plea for mercy and later dispatched the Pirate Hunter Guild’s vice guild master in a one-sided fight. 27 112 However, he treats trusted crewmates as family, encourages their growth, and apologized to Jola after speaking too harshly to him. 113 131
Abilities & Skills
King of Silver
Shirakawa’s primary power manifests as silver-white light and the immense Sword of Damocles overhead. Its exact Devil Fruit classification is unknown, and even Marine records lack an identified fruit matching it. 3 78
- Creates a transparent defensive barrier capable of blocking attacks, including Buggy’s dagger and Borsalino’s light barrage. 3 130
- Allows unrestricted aerial flight once activated. 6
- Produces the Sword of Damocles during serious combat; it vanished after judging and killing Akda. 26 27
- A crack appeared on the Sword of Damocles after Akda’s death; its consequences remain unknown. 27
- His power can be affected by alcohol and is not absolute. 4
Gravity Manipulation
Shirakawa can increase gravity on selected targets.
- Used gravity to pin down Shanks and his allies, reducing the damage they would have taken from Rogue’s attack. 34
- Defeated the Mountain Bandit Chief by increasing gravity. 34
- Uses gravity in the descending sword technique Falling Goose, originally jokingly named “Buddha Divine Sword.” 28
Immortal Body
Shirakawa possesses an exceptionally powerful regenerative constitution, which he calls an Immortal Body. 27
- Restores injuries rapidly, including wounds inflicted by powerful swordsmen and Golden Lion Shiki. 27 69 140
- Minor injuries require negligible stamina, while severe wounds cause substantial exhaustion. 8
- He still experiences pain before injuries heal. 8
- His body resists attacks from opponents far weaker than him, but fighters of comparable strength can injure him. 10
- Strong sword wounds consume especially high amounts of stamina to recover from. 69
Sacred Area
Shirakawa can expand a protected area around himself and his allies.
- Shielded his crew from the opening of Kurokam’s battle against a Logia user. 159 160
- Used it to protect nearby allies from the shockwave and debris created by Kurokam and Garp’s clash. 170
Haki
Shirakawa has mastered all three forms of Haki. 57
- Conqueror’s Haki — Can selectively incapacitate targets and clash with other supreme Haki users; his Haki eventually suppressed Golden Lion Shiki’s. 8 138
- Armament Haki — Coats his blade and body for offense and defense, allowing him to cut Logia users such as Kuzan. 55 78 79
- Observation Haki — Enhances his perception and reaction speed; he used it to evade attacks that appeared to pass through him. 48 76
Swordsmanship
A Great Swordsman trained by Rayleigh, Shirakawa fights with a highly aggressive style built around powerful Sword Qi and rapid bursts of movement. 52 70
- Mountain Splitter — Rayleigh’s signature technique; releases exceptionally heavy Sword Qi. 68
- Swallowtail Flash — A rapid one-sword drawing slash. 68
- Can project Sword Qi powerful enough to slice several pirate ships in half with one strike. 76
- Fought Kuzan closely enough to wound him through Armament Haki. 78 79
- Matched Golden Lion Shiki in an aerial duel, leaving Shiki covered in sword wounds. 138 140
