Background / History
The Primordial World was created from Pangu's sacrifice after he fought the three thousand Chaos Demon Gods. Pure qi rose to form the heavens, while turbid qi sank to become the land; Pangu's body transformed into the world's sun, moon, mountains, rivers, wind, thunder, and other fundamental phenomena 185.
The Dragon, Phoenix, and Kirin Clans were the first dominant races of the world. Their rise ended in the War of the Three Tribes, whose destruction left the Dragon Clan severely weakened and burdened with immense karmic debt 1.
In the later Witch-Demon era, the Wu Clan, Demon Race, Immortal Court, Dragon Clan, Human Race, and eventually the Devil Race each shaped the world's balance of power. The Wu and Demon Clans became the primary opposing forces, repeatedly bringing the world to the edge of calamity 17 95 169.
Cosmology
Heavenly Dao and the Great Trend
The Primordial World's operation follows the Heavenly Dao's grand trend. Its future contains apparent variables, but its main direction is predetermined and ordinarily beyond the reach of even Quasi-Sage great powers 73.
After merging with the Dao, Hongjun reinforced control over the world through an immense net of Heavenly Dao laws that enveloped the entire realm 170.
River of Time
The River of Time is one of the world's most dangerous and mysterious existences. It contains reflections of past, present, and future, while interference with it risks severe backlash—even Heavenly Dao Saints can only glimpse it under particular conditions 77.
At its source, Ao Chen witnessed the world's creation and its historical development, later recognizing the Primordial World as a Projection World connected to other branches of the River of Time 185.
World Fetus Membrane
The world is enclosed by a World Fetus Membrane separating it from the surrounding Chaos. During clashes between supreme beings, the membrane could be torn apart; combatants moved their battles into Chaos to avoid reducing the comparatively fragile world to primordial disorder 171.
Regions and Realms
| Location / Realm | Description |
|---|---|
| Primordial Continent | The central landmass, rich in Innate Spiritual Qi, divine mountains, ancient forests, exotic beasts, and brutal competition for survival 6 |
| Four Seas | The Dragon Clan's traditional domain and responsibility following the decline of its ancient hegemony 1 |
| Heavenly Realm | A hidden realm discovered by Di Jun and Fuxi; the Demon Race later developed it into its principal stronghold 52 54 |
| Netherworld Sea of Blood | The domain of Old Ancestor Minghe and the birthplace of the Asura Race 68 78 |
| Buzhou Mountain | The world-supporting mountain associated with Pangu's spine; its destruction caused the sky to collapse 178 |
| Pangu Temple | A Wu Clan sacred site whose core contains a self-evolving Small Thousand World born from Pangu's heart 168 |
| Three Clans Battlefield Ruins | A ruin saturated with shattered laws, resentment, and spatial instability from the ancient war; Ao Chen used it to study the River of Time and cultivate acupoint worlds 53 104 |
| Thirty-Three Heavenly Palaces | The heavenly domains formed from Pangu's rising pure qi 185 |
Major Eras and Conflicts
Era of the Three Primordial Races
The Dragon, Phoenix, and Kirin Clans once dominated the Primordial World. Their conflict devastated heaven and earth, leaving the Dragon Clan in decline and bound by karmic debt 1 185.
Witch-Demon Conflict
The Wu Clan and Demon Race formally established their lineages and began a prolonged struggle for dominance. Their wars escalated from direct confrontations into clashes of supreme arrays, including the Zhou Tian Xing Dou Great Array and the Twelve Capital Gods and Demons Great Array 17 97.
The conflict spread fear across the world: tribes migrated, cultivators sought refuge, and other factions prepared for the expected final battle 95.
Rise of the Devil Race
After Luohu's return, the Devil Race corrupted the western lands, established Devil Lairs and Devil Domains, and became the third major force competing with the Wu Clan and Demon Race 149 169.
Hongjun's Dao Merger
Hongjun's successful merger with the Dao strengthened the Heavenly Dao's authority over the Primordial World. His conflict with Ao Chen became a struggle between Heavenly Dao order and a path of transcendence independent of the world 169 170 172.
Collapse and Restoration
Gong Gong's destruction of Buzhou Mountain shattered the sky and exposed the world to destructive void currents 178. Later, Hongjun's self-Daoization gravely damaged the Heavenly Dao, causing widespread collapse: mountains crumbled, spirit veins broke, ghosts flooded from the Nine Netherworlds, and the world's order failed 180.
Ao Chen reversed time to restore the world, mended the sky with a seven-colored divine stone, and created five pillars to stabilize the four extremities and central divine land 180 181.
Relationships
- Pangu — Creator whose sacrifice formed the Primordial World and its fundamental phenomena 185.
- Heavenly Dao — Governing order that directs the world's grand trend and constrains its inhabitants' futures 73.
- Dao Ancestor Hongjun — Merged with the Heavenly Dao to control the world more completely; his self-Daoization nearly destroyed it 170 180.
- Ao Chen — Cultivator whose Mythical path stands independent of the Heavenly Dao; he ultimately restored and stabilized the world after its collapse 87 180 181.
- Nuwa — Heavenly Dao Saint who attempted to preserve the world's order during its catastrophe and later received aid from Ao Chen 178 181.
- Wu Clan, Demon Race, and Devil Race — The three principal factions in the world's later tripartite stalemate 169.
Trivia
- The Primordial World's ordinary rocks are described as comparable to divine metal from later ages 6.
- Its future is constrained by the Heavenly Dao's grand trend, making a genuinely independent “future coordinate” extraordinarily difficult to establish 73.
- Ao Chen ultimately identifies it as a Projection World among branches connected through the River of Time 185.
