Dia led Yan Yang and Ash through the ruins and shadows, eventually arriving at his base.

Though messy, it kept out the wind and rain and was fairly dry. Some collected mats and waterproof tarps had been spread across the ground, while supply crates were piled in a corner.

On the way there, Ash's stomach had already been rumbling loud enough to shake the heavens. He rubbed it awkwardly.

Dia glanced at him and took several bags of standard-issue energy cubes from his pack. His tone was flat. "I only brought enough for the Pokémon. As for yours... endure it for now. We'll deal with it once we get there."

Ash did not complain. He merely watched Pikachu nibble at an energy cube in small bites, then swallowed hard himself.

Seeing this, Yan Yang sighed and dug several packets of compressed biscuits, energy bars, and a bottle of water from his own bag before handing them to Ash.

"Ah! Thank you, Yan Yang! You're such a good person!" Ash's eyes lit up. He accepted them and immediately tore open the packaging, wolfing everything down as though he had not eaten in days.

Trying to teach Ash table manners was less believable than thinking he had ever seriously fallen in love with some girl.

Once they reached the base, Dia said nothing. He simply took out the dry rations stored there and ate slowly with water, his gaze still warily scanning the movement outside.

After filling their stomachs, Dia released the rest of his partners.
