Taishang Laozi is the eldest of the Three Pure Ones, an incarnation of Pangu's nascent soul, and Dao Ancestor Hongjun's chief disciple. He established the Human Sect and resides at the Eight Views Palace in the outer heavens. Though publicly associated with the Dao of Wu Wei—non-action, naturalness, and detachment—he possesses deep cultivation, exceptional wealth in Magic Treasures, and a reputation as the foremost figure of the Eastern Xuanmen 209 385 1146.

He has only two known disciples: Great Master Xuandu and the hidden True Person Du'e. Despite this limited lineage, he sought to recruit talented Human Race leaders after witnessing the Human sanctuary's rapid prosperity, hoping to obtain disciples who had inherited powerful cultivation methods 484 1326.

During the Human-Demon conflict, Laozi observed events around the Human Race before confronting Saint Sanqi. His attempts to dismantle her layered formation repeatedly failed or incurred losses, forcing him to rely on increasingly powerful treasures and eventually brute force. His detachment does not mean a lack of ambition. He can be proud of his treasures and attainments, grows displeased when his reputation or ranking is challenged, and privately sought a means to counter Sect Master Tongtian's Immortal Slaying Sword Formation.
