Background

Zhunti's true form is the Gengjin Bodhi. The Western lands were rendered barren after Demon Ancestor Luohu drained their spiritual energy; Zhunti would transform into his immense Bodhi Giant Tree form to shelter and protect the beings of the West. 53

At the Purple Cloud Palace, Zhunti and Saint Jieyin persuaded Daoist Hongyun to surrender his seat and pressured Kunpeng to do the same. The incident cost Kunpeng his opportunity and helped provoke the resentment that later led to Hongyun's death. 161 195

Zhunti later obtained an opportunity for sainthood at the Purple Cloud Palace, founded the Great Western Sect, and attained Sagehood through immense merit. His ascension was difficult: he made forty-eight great vows and borrowed merit from the Heavenly Dao to become a Sage. 62 1091

He is also proud, thin-skinned, and highly reactive to humiliation.
