Background / History

Hashirama first met Uchiha Madara as a child and immediately connected with the idea of ending inherited hatred over time. He sought to share that aspiration with Kyosuke, seeing him as another person who understood the possibility of peace between the Senju and Uchiha. Kyosuke warned him that war and time could change people, but Hashirama affirmed that he would endure pain and continue pursuing his dream. 34 36

His Wood Release emerged during the Warring States period, rapidly turning him into one of the battlefield's most feared young shinobi. His defeat of three Uchiha Jonin who had infiltrated to assassinate him made his name known throughout the Ninja World. 60

After Senju Butsuma's death, Hashirama became Senju Clan Head. Tobirama suppressed internal opposition, while Hashirama made clear that he would not surrender the position: he intended to use it to pursue an end to the era of war. 137

Hashirama later embraced the proposal to unite clans in a hidden village, helping establish Konohagakure alongside Madara and Kyosuke. Although he was a symbol of the village's founding, he also performed practical work with Wood Release, constructing housing, growing crops, and improving farmland for new residents. 143 192 193

In his later years, worsening physical weakness left him bedridden for extended periods. His idealism is paired with a tendency toward naivety. He hesitates to prioritize military expansion, worries that increasing Konohagakure's strength could pressure neighboring countries, and considers distributing Tailed Beasts despite Kyosuke's objections. 193

In battle, Hashirama can be indecisive when facing friends, particularly Kyosuke and Madara. Once he accepts that a fight is unavoidable, however, he becomes focused and formidable.
