Background / History
Founding
At the future Hokage Rock, Senju Hashirama proposes building a village free of clan discrimination and child soldiers. Uchiha Madara shares the aspiration, while Uchiha Kyosuke says he looks forward to seeing the village built. 36
Kyosuke later presents the concept to Land of Fire clan representatives. He frames the proposed hidden village as a refuge for all clans amid foreign threats and internal warfare, with education, medical support, and public security as core functions. 143
The Uchiha and Senju ultimately end their war and establish the Land of Fire's first joint hidden village. The founders invite all residents—including former enemies willing to abandon revenge—to settle and contribute to construction in exchange for housing, employment, and educational opportunities. 192
At a meeting of clan heads, Kyosuke proposes the name Konohagakure, invoking the image of falling leaves feeding an enduring fire. The village adopts leaf forehead protectors and green vests to create a common identity among its ninja. 198
Early expansion
Konohagakure rapidly absorbs migrant clans and civilians. Hashirama uses Wood Release to construct housing and accelerate crop growth, allowing the settlement to address its immediate housing and food shortages. 192
Kyosuke proposes a three-zone land system:
- Core area — controlled by the village leadership; residents buy temporary housing-use rights.
- Inner city — lower-priced housing intended for different social classes.
- Outer city — an expandable area intended to support continued growth. 193
By the time of the Hyuga Clan's arrival, the registered population reaches 120,000 and continues rising as nearby settlements relocate for safety and prosperity. 204 By Konoha Year 24, Konohagakure has become the Land of Fire's largest city, with a permanent population in the hundreds of thousands and an estimated daily flow exceeding one million people. 271
Government
Hokage
| Hokage | Term / Event | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Uchiha Kyosuke | First Hokage | Elected unanimously after Hyuga Yayoi nominates him; his succession ceremony is attended by thousands of citizens. 221 |
| Hyuga Yayoi | Second Hokage | Succeeds Kyosuke in Konohagakure's eighth year after Uchiha Yuto defeats Tobirama Senju, ending the Senju bid for the office. 253 |
| Uchiha Yuto | Third Hokage | Inaugurated after Yayoi chooses to abdicate due to age and fatigue. 264 287 |
Military ranks
Kyosuke reforms the village's shinobi promotion system after becoming Hokage. 223
- Genin — granted to Ninja School graduates along with a Konohagakure forehead protector.
- Chunin — attained through mission requirements and the Chunin Exams.
- Jonin — requires mission qualifications and evaluation by village leadership.
- Elite Jonin — requires high-level endorsement; considered a core village rank.
- Shadow Level — designation for exceptionally powerful ninja.
- Super Shadow Level — ninja capable of defeating multiple Shadow-level opponents. 223
Four Super Shadows
- Uchiha Kyosuke — First Hokage and the village's strongest declared Super Shadow. 223
- Uchiha Madara — Uchiha Clan Head and second declared Super Shadow. 223
- Senju Hashirama — Senju Clan Head and third declared Super Shadow. 223
- Hyuga Yayoi — Hyuga Clan Head and fourth declared Super Shadow. 223
Education and Civil Systems
Ninja School
Kyosuke proposes the Ninja School to cultivate foundational strength and a shared village identity. Clan heads eventually agree to provide Jonin instructors, while the Uchiha contribute a large collection of ninjutsu. 199
- Students earn credits through study and may redeem higher-level techniques with accumulated points. 199
- Student loans are offered to cover education costs, to be repaid after graduation. 199
- The completed school is expanded to support more than ten classes per grade and multiple training grounds. 215
- The academy later produces more than 1,500 graduates in a single year and supplies Konohagakure with over 10,000 Genin. 260
The academy system gives Konohagakure a substantial mid- and low-level advantage over rival villages, which initially dismiss the model as a challenge to traditional clan control of knowledge. 240
Will of Fire curriculum
Kyosuke mandates a Will of Fire curriculum for both students and civilians. He considers a unified ideological foundation necessary to prevent hostile forces from manipulating public opinion within the village. 232
Public security and administration
- Kyosuke's original founding plan includes a village guard force to combat crime and maintain stability for civilians. 143
- The village establishes a Police Force, though the Senju's later control of it contributes to their political isolation. 253
- Kyosuke seeks to control the Daimyo's office and place intelligence personnel throughout its bureaucracy to secure funding and prevent political interference. 201
- A ninja-intern system is implemented to address an accumulated mission backlog. 232
Scientific Ninja Tools
Scientific Ninja Tools become one of Konohagakure's principal strategic advantages. Kyosuke's long-term plan is for standard squads to become proficient in their use. 255
| Type | Function |
|---|---|
| Chakra Capacitor Type | Stores chakra for rapid, accessible use; can arm large numbers of civilians despite limited stored chakra. 255 |
| Bio-Engineering Type | Includes artificial limbs and organs using artificial meridians, allowing users to condense chakra and perform ninjutsu or taijutsu. 255 |
| Amplification Type | Enhances chakra and ninjutsu; examples include wall-climbing devices, ninja Gatling guns, and chakra-absorption tools. 255 |
| Advanced Technology Type | Improves conventional equipment through materials and technology, including ceramic kunai, fire-resistant combat suits, communication devices, and drone weapons. 255 |
During the First Great Ninja War, Konohagakure Genin use miniaturized ninjutsu-scroll tools to create Shadow Clones and deploy techniques beyond their normal capabilities, overturning enemy numerical advantages. 263
Relationships
- Uchiha Clan — Founding clan; Kyosuke's influence and the clan's military strength are central to the village's early dominance. 192 223

- Land of Fire Daimyo — Political and financial partner; the Daimyo views Konohagakure's founding as vital to the Land of Fire's security. 193 204

Story Role / Major Arcs
Chunin Exams and Isshiki's attack
Konohagakure hosts the first Joint Chunin Exams to demonstrate the strength of its younger generation. Examinees from Sunagakure, Iwagakure, Kirigakure, Kumogakure, and Amegakure arrive under strict village registration rules. 242 243
Ōtsutsuki Isshiki interrupts the exams, declaring his intent to seize the Nine-Tails, kill the Hokage, and destroy the Six Paths. Kyosuke orders the evacuation of civilians before confronting him. 247
First Great Ninja War
Konohagakure faces coordinated pressure from Sunagakure, Kumogakure, and Kirigakure. Its academy-trained Genin, elite Uchiha forces, Hyuga research, and Scientific Ninja Tools allow it to defeat the opposing great villages. 260 263
The war ends with Kumogakure and Kirigakure surrendering and paying compensation, cementing Konohagakure's status as the strongest hidden village. 263
Senju crisis
After Uchiha Yuto becomes Third Hokage, Senju resentment toward Uchiha political dominance intensifies. Anbu rumors portray the Senju as rebels, while Tobirama's staged death and the clan's framing lead to their downfall. 287 300
Interstellar era
Following conflict with Ōtsutsuki forces, Konohagakure rapidly conquers the four great nations and unifies the Ninja World. Ten-Tails cloning technology then allows Super Shadow-level shinobi to break through toward Six Paths power, travel between planets, gather Chakra Fruits, and ignite Divine Fire. 315
