Background / History

The original Demon Race Heavenly Court was established beyond the Thirty-Third Heaven. Built around the Great Dipper Stars and protected by the Stars of the Great Dipper Formation, it governed the stars through appointed Star Gods and maintained the Star Patrol Division to inspect them. The formation was regarded as one of the Primordial Wilderness’s two great killing formations. 73

During the Witch-Demon War, the Demon Race Heavenly Court was destroyed. Its palaces became ruins, the 365 Main Stars dimmed, and the legacy of the Stars of the Great Dipper Formation was lost. 73 133 135

Heavenly Dao Hongjun later determined that the Three Realms and Six Paths required a new Heavenly Court to prevent disorder. He appointed Haotian as Heavenly Emperor and Yaochi as Queen Mother, tasking them with restoring celestial order. 133 135

Haotian moved Ziwei Star to the former site beyond the Thirty-Third Heaven and began rebuilding the ruins with former Demon Race Star Gods, Witch Race warriors, and Netherworld Yin Gods. After an entire Yuanhui, the court was provisionally restored, including the thirty-three heavenly palaces, seventy-two treasure halls, barracks, and most formation bases. 135 136

Major Arcs

Demon Race Heavenly Court

Haotian entered the Demon Race Heavenly Court through his incarnation, Xuanzhen Daoist. Di Jun appointed him head of the Star Patrol Division because his incarnation had few competing interests and could inspect Star Gods impartially. 73

Xuanzhen inspected the 365 Main Stars over three hundred years, recording their Star Gods, defenses, formations, and weaknesses. He intended these records as preparation for his future rule of the Heavenly Court. 73

The court subsequently gained the Dragon Clan’s submission and recruited Fuxi, Nuwa, Changxi, and Xihe. Its victory over the Immortal Court and control of the sun and lunar stars strengthened its foundations before its eventual destruction in the Witch-Demon War. 74 76 81 82

Re-establishment and Reconstruction

Hongjun ordered the Heavenly Court re-established to maintain order across the Three Realms and Six Paths. Haotian and Yaochi accepted their appointments as Heavenly Emperor and Queen Mother, then led a mixed force of former demons, witches, and Yin Gods in reconstruction. 133 135

The rebuilt court recruited cultivators without restrictions of race or origin. Although most arrivals lacked exceptional ability, Taibai Jinxing and the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden joined as Primordial Unity Golden Immortals and became key ministers. 136

Connection of the Three Realms

Haotian and Nuwa repaired the damaged Tongtian Jianmu, restoring passage between Heaven and Earth and synchronizing their time flow: one heavenly day equaled one earthly year. 137

Haotian also connected the Netherworld through the Nether Book, Earth Book, Wheel of Reincarnation, and Great Desolation Land. The resulting links joined Heaven, Earth, and Nether into a closed cycle. 137 138

Consolidation of the Star Domains

Old Heaven remnants occupied stars previously under celestial jurisdiction. Haotian personally led 600,000 heavenly soldiers against the rebel stars of the Northern Dipper, reclaiming Tianshu, Celestial Rotator, Celestial Pearl, and Celestial Authority. 144 145 148

The campaign expanded to the Southern Dipper, Five Luminaries, and remaining star domains. By the end of the rebellion, all 365 Main Stars were under the Heavenly Court’s control, allowing the Stars of the Great Dipper Formation to be fully restored. 173 175 180 191 192

Expansion into the Blood Sea, Penglai, and Northern Darkness

The court negotiated with Styx to establish an inspection post in the Blood Sea in exchange for considering Asura-Human intermarriage. This marked the first external authority permitted a foothold in the historically independent Blood Sea. 171 172

The Heavenly Court later mobilized ten million troops against Penglai Island, supported by East Sea Dragon King warships. After the campaign, Penglai and its surrounding seas became the fief of the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden. 231 249

After pacifying Northern Darkness, Haotian placed it under military administration. Ji Meng became Grand Marshal Who Pacifies the North and Minister of War, while West Queen Mother became Governor-General of Northern Darkness and Grand Preceptor. 250

Notable Events

  • South Heaven Gate falls — Feidan’s demon army breached the court’s principal entrance while Haotian was away. Gatekeeper Zhang Kui died defending the Thirteenth Heaven. 189 190
  • Celestial envoy slain — A Jiejiao disciple killed a Heavenly Court envoy in the mortal realm. Haotian first pursued diplomacy through Taibai Jinxing, then deferred the dispute after Jiejiao denied responsibility. 181
  • Jingyang City incident — A Heaven Patrol Directorate inspector investigating heart-removal killings was killed by a Jiejiao disciple; Lu Ya, Bai Ze, and Yaochi handled the report while Haotian cultivated in seclusion. 252
