Background
Haotian was originally Wang Shen, a man from Earth who transmigrated into the Great Desolation within a Primordial Chaotic Stone 1. He witnessed the Saint Hongjun establish the Purple Firmament Palace in Chaos 1. Hongjun transformed Wang Shen and another stone into children, naming Wang Shen "Haotian" and the other "Yaochi," leaving them to manage the palace with Purple Firmament Tokens 1.
Initially, Haotian was aware of his future as a "puppet" Heavenly Emperor, which caused him inner turmoil 1. He vowed to rewrite his destiny and become a powerful Heavenly Emperor, deciding to cultivate the Imperial Great Dao, focusing on ruling the Three Realms and civilizing the Myriad Spirits 2. Haotian realized his innate deficiencies and sought ways to improve his aptitude, even contemplating using the Qiankun Cauldron 23.
He subsequently cultivated through the Golden Immortal, Grand Unity, Taiyi, Da Luo, Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal, and Quasi-Saint realms 29 72 75 134 120 194 257. His rise was supported by increasingly complete refinement of powerful Spirit Treasures, the acquisition of the Wind Lightning Dao Fruit and Gui Xu Source, stewardship of Mount Wuyi and Ziwei Star, and the accumulation of Heaven and Earth Great Momentum 73 120 151.
Before openly assuming his destiny, Haotian entered the Demon Race Heavenly Court under the identities Youquan, Xuanzhen Daoist, and Ziwei Star King. He infiltrated the Myriad Demon Alliance, helped expose its schemes, inspected the stars, gained Di Jun's trust, persuaded the Dragon Clan to submit to the Demon Heavenly Court, and was enfeoffed as Ziwei Great Emperor 65 68 73 76. He also became Lord of the Netherworld by establishing and organizing its institutions and the Six Paths of Reincarnation 108.
After the fall of the old Heavenly Court, Hongjun appointed Haotian as Heavenly Emperor and Yaochi as Queen Mother 135. He then rebuilt the Heavenly Court, established ministries and recruited officials, subdued rebellious remnants, reclaimed stellar authority, reconstructed the Stars of the Great Dipper Formation, defeated Kunpeng and pacified Northern Darkness, and expanded Heavenly Court control throughout the Three Realms and Six Paths 136 151 192 250 258.

This Dao focuses on ruling the Three Realms and civilizing the Myriad Spirits, aiming for mutual prosperity where all things in heaven and earth prosper because of his rise 2. It embodies dominion, order, civilization, and prosperity 2.

- Manipulating Trends: Haotian can use his Imperial Great Dao to manipulate and suppress trends of mountains and rivers 5. This allowed him to alter a Dao Rule, causing a mountain-guarding beast's formation to collapse 5.
- Sealing and Suppressing Space: He can activate his Imperial Great Dao to seal and suppress space with invisible Dao Rules, preventing the Treasure Dropping Gold Coin from escaping 5.

- Great Momentum Growth: Unlike ordinary cultivation paths, the Imperial Great Dao grows through Haotian's expansion of territory, consolidation of Heavenly Court rule, and accumulation of Heaven and Earth Great Momentum 257.
- Limitations:
- Nascent Stage: Initially, the Imperial Great Dao was slender and nascent 2, and extremely tender, requiring careful nurturing 22.
- Requires External Action: To fully develop, it requires Haotian to venture into the Great Desolation, gather Fortune, establish authority, and act amidst the karma of the world 29 193.
- Technique Flaws: West Queen Mother identifies a weakness in Haotian's early integration of the Dao and the Stars of the Great Dipper Formation 205.
- Order-Bound Nature: Hongjun warns Haotian that his authority is tied to preserving heaven and earth's order; should he go astray, heaven and earth will punish him 135.

- Heavenly Net and Earthly Snare: The completed formation uses the 365 Main Stars as its foundation, the River Diagram and Luo Script as its pivot, and 14,800 formation flags as guides to draw upon All Heavens Star Power 151.

Wind Lightning Dao and Gui Xu Sword Art
After consuming six Wind Lightning Immortal Apricots, Haotian condensed the Wind Lightning Dao Fruit and integrated the Wind Lightning Law into the Imperial Great Dao 73.
- Applications:
- Limitations:
- Resource Dependence: Haotian seeks further wind- and lightning-attributed treasures to continue strengthening this Dao 73.
Gui Xu Source and Chaos Primordial Energy
The Gui Xu Source is fused into the core of Haotian's Imperial Great Dao and functions as a foundation for his future proving of the Dao 73.

- Complete Refinement: Over three Yuanhui, he completely refines the Primordial Chaos Sky Measuring Ruler, Treasure Dropping Gold Coin, Nether Book, and Peach Trees 120.
- Treasure Dropping: The Treasure Dropping Gold Coin can halt an opponent's Spirit Treasure, as shown when it stopped Kunpeng's Mysterious Origin Water Control Banner 242.
- Sea Calming Pearl: Haotian acquires the twelve-bead Sea Calming Pearl, a High-Grade Innate Spirit Treasure with Water Law Rhyme 74.
- Limitations:
Theory of Demonmentum
Haotian developed the "Theory of Demonmentum," which explains how the convergence of living beings forms an intangible, great power that influences the world and triggers calamities 26.
- Applications:
- Understanding Universal Dynamics: This theory provides a framework for understanding the rise and fall of powers, such as the Three Clans during the Dragon-Phoenix Tribulation and the Dao-Demon Conflict 26.
- Strategic Planning: Understanding momentum is crucial for Haotian's path, as he aims to gather the Great Demonmentum of heaven and earth to achieve supreme Primordial Chaos 2.
- Statecraft: He applies the same principles to mobilize public opinion, build Heavenly Court legitimacy, secure alliances, and accumulate the Great Momentum required by the Imperial Great Dao 76 193.
- Limitations:
- Abstract Nature: Demonmentum is formless and shapeless, pervading the universe, and does not directly act upon living beings 26.

Themes
Haotian's journey is shaped by the pursuit of the Great Dao and cultivation advancement, which is central to his ambition to become a powerful Heavenly Emperor 2 23. This pursuit involves the principle of accumulation, emphasizing consistent efforts to build his foundation, such as refining spiritual roots to increase his Fortune 6. A significant aspect of his path is the importance of Fortune in cultivation, which is tied to his actions and destiny, and the balance of heaven and earth, which he seeks to align with rather than disrupt 2 6.
The narrative also explores power dynamics and respect for authority in the Great Desolation, as Haotian learns to navigate the complex relationships among powerful beings and leverage his master's influence 13. As his status rises, this develops into a broader theme of legitimate rule: Haotian does not simply seek personal power, but endeavors to convert Fortune, stellar authority, alliances, and public order into a stable Heavenly Court 76 135 151.
Furthermore, the theme of destiny and free will is prominent, as Haotian, aware of his future as a "puppet Heavenly Emperor," strives to rewrite his fate and establish his own Imperial Great Dao based on mutual prosperity and benefiting the Myriad Spirits 1 2 29. His eventual appointment as Heavenly Emperor tests whether he can fulfill that role on his own terms rather than become the powerless figure he feared 135.
The story also emphasizes strategy over simple force. Haotian repeatedly builds influence through favors, covert identities, negotiations, treasure exchanges, and long-term preparation before applying overwhelming military or personal strength 65 76 171 193. His later campaigns demonstrate the reciprocal relationship between authority and strength: the Heavenly Court's expanding order empowers his Imperial Great Dao, while his personal power enables that order to endure 148 192 258.
Haotian's cultivation system further reinforces this reciprocal relationship. The Imperial Great Dao possesses an uncommon avenue of growth through Heaven and Earth Great Momentum, making territorial consolidation, Human Dao Fortune, and institutional order direct sources of personal advancement 251 257. His campaigns therefore represent not merely conquest, but an effort to make Heavenly Court authority materially real across the Three Realms and Six Paths 250 258.
