Background / History

Donghua was originally Wang Xuanfu, an ordinary Blue Star civil servant who died while traveling and transmigrated into the severely wounded body of East King Gong. The original East King Gong was an Innate Deity born from the Primordial World's ultimate pure yang; Donghua awakens knowing that this identity is fated to be killed by Eastern Emperor Taiyi over the East Sea. 1

He rules the Three Islands and Ten Continents from Purple Mansion Continent, where the Great Commander of Fate and Shao Siming administer the Thirty-Five Divisions. Initially focused on avoiding the Heavenly Court and preserving a peaceful cultivation life, he gradually accepts that strength, alliances, and political power are necessary to survive in the Primordial World. 1 3 7

During his travels, Donghua teaches cultivation, practical life skills, techniques, and customs to ordinary members of the Iron Eater Beast tribe. His preaching also gives him new insights into the Dao. He later forms an alliance between the tribe and Purple Mansion, accepts Yuan Zhen/Xiong Er as a disciple, and becomes a formative supporter of the clan. 19 20 24

Donghua develops the Innate Eight Trigrams Great Dao, repeatedly slays his Three Corpses in the River of Destiny, and gradually reveals an Imperial Dao founded on destiny, fortune, and the governance of the Three Thousand Great Daos. 100 163 176

After unifying the Primordial World under Purple Mansion, he performs a sacrifice to Heaven and Earth, reaches Hunyuan Third Layer, establishes the Supreme Heavenly Court, and becomes Heavenly Emperor. 260 261

Appearance

Donghua is a peerless-looking immortal whose appearance remains strongly associated with pure yang Dao Rhyme and imperial presence.

  • Face described as jade-like.
  • Sword-like eyebrows and star-catching eyes.
  • Long white hair compared to a flowing spring.
  • Usually wears a purple Daoist robe.
  • His body is often surrounded by flowing Dao Rhyme and divine light. 1 142

Personality

Donghua begins fearful of his foretold death and openly longs for a quiet life without war or worry. Nevertheless, he is practical about the Primordial World's brutality and increasingly willing to contend for the Dao when retreat would endanger his people or ideals. 1 7 109 155

He is approachable with trusted subordinates and disciples, often teasing them, rewarding merit, and offering instruction. He encourages younger cultivators such as Xiong Er and Qing Xuan, but can also be calculating, ruthless, and willing to prioritize strategic victory over territorial damage. 3 8 19 160

As Heavenly Emperor, Donghua struggles with how power has changed him. He ultimately distinguishes his personal self from his office: the Heavenly Emperor requires majesty, but “Donghua” does not. 310
