Background / History

The Chu Family was founded in Heavenly Dance City by an ancestor who had been a true disciple of the Daoist Void Embrace Sect. After the sect was destroyed amid the Jianghu's turmoil, the ancestor relied on the Void Scripture and other Void Embrace Sect arts to establish the family. 2

The family residence, Chu Mansion, stands on North Main Street in Heavenly Dance City. Its grounds are extensive, and Chu Qing retains detailed knowledge of the estate from his childhood. 11 14

Under Chu Yunfei, the family became closely tied to the City Lord's Mansion. Chu Yunfei arranged an engagement between his youngest son, Chu Qing, and Wu Qianhuan, Wu Ganqi's only daughter, intending both to secure Chu Qing's future and reinforce the alliance between the two powers. 13

The Void Scripture is the Chu Family's inherited ultimate skill, derived from the Void Embrace Sect's Daoist lineage. It emphasizes balance, steady accumulation, endurance, and a low risk of qi deviation rather than explosive power. 2

Chu Qing's Departure

Chu Qing left the family at twelve after refusing the marriage arranged by Chu Yunfei. He spent most of the following seven years cultivating the Void Scripture in seclusion before entering the Jianghu. 1

During his absence, Chu Yunfei and Chu Tian searched for him, while Chu Fan repeatedly inquired about his whereabouts through Taiyi Sect contacts. Chu Yunfei's health deteriorated from worry over his missing youngest son. 4 21

Chu Fan's Return Banquet

Chu Yunfei hosts a three-day banquet to celebrate Chu Fan's return after completing his training. The event draws major figures from Heavenly Dance City and surrounding Jianghu factions, including representatives of Luoyu Hall and Wu Qianhuan. 12 16 17

Chu Qing infiltrates the manor first as a porter and later as a servant, seeking to protect his father without revealing his identity. 14 16

Sin Mirror Platform Assassination Plot

The Sin Mirror Platform targets Chu Yunfei through a layered scheme: an impostor posing as Chu Qing is meant to wound him emotionally and physically, after which a hidden assassin intends to strike while Chu Yunfei mourns in his youngest son's room. 14 21

Chu Qing discovers and kills the assassin waiting in his old room, leaving the body as a warning. 14 15 During the banquet, the false “Chu Qing” attempts to stab Chu Yunfei, but the attack is stopped by an unexpected sword strike. 21

Faked Death and Counterplot

Following the failed attempts on his life, Chu Yunfei's reported assassination is revealed to be a trap intended to draw out Ten Thousand Night Valley. The resulting rumors place Heavenly Dance City under tension and contribute to a citywide lockdown. 33 36

Chu Tian later reunites with Chu Qing, accepts that he has defected from the Sin Mirror Platform, and offers the Chu Family as protection against the organization pursuing him. 33 34

Conflict with the Shashen Gang

Chu Tian aids Chu Qing's effort to locate Shashen Gang leader Cheng Sihai, arranging surveillance that traces him to the Liu Family estate. 47 48 Chu Family members subsequently join Wu Qianhuan and others in confronting the gang there. 50
