Background / History

Tony was kidnapped during a weapons test in Afghanistan. While held by the Pseudo Ten Rings, he built an early Iron Armor and attempted an escape with Yinsen; Yinsen revealed that Stark Industries weapons had killed his family and urged Tony not to waste the life he had saved. Yuri and Mark ultimately rescued Tony and Yinsen, after which Tony arranged payment for the mercenaries. 3 6

The experience changed Tony’s view of his weapons business. At a public press conference, he announced the immediate shutdown of Stark Industries’ weapons division, declaring that he no longer wished to contribute to a world where his weapons killed soldiers. 10

Tony’s relationship with Yuri began as a mix of suspicion, rivalry, and business.
