Background

Izuna served as the Uchiha Clan's Young Clan Leader during the Warring States Period and fought Senju Tobirama as a major rival. His Body Flicker Technique, Sharingan, and swordsmanship forced Tobirama to streamline hand seals and develop techniques such as the Flying Thunder God to counter his relentless close-range offense. Izuna ultimately died after Tobirama used the Flying Thunder God Slash in their decisive battle. 94 116 141

Before his death, Izuna urged Uchiha Madara not to trust the Senju and to care for the Uchiha Clan. Madara later recognized that he had failed both parts of that request after leaving Konoha and neglecting the clan. 88 116

Long after Izuna's death, Tobirama created an artificial body by blending his own cells with Izuna's cells, adjusting its face to strongly resemble Izuna, and assuming the identity Uchiha Aosui. The resemblance, Aosui's talent, and the later manifestation of Izuna's chakra led the Uchiha Clan and Madara to associate Aosui with their former Young Clan Leader. 95 103 116

Tobirama later invoked the Yata Imperial Spirit Dōjutsu and summoned Izuna's consciousness. Izuna initially believed Aosui might be his son, then concluded that the youth was descended from both himself and Tobirama after examining his chakra and body. Tobirama rejected this conclusion, but Izuna nevertheless chose to guide the youth he saw as the Uchiha Clan's future. 140 142 156 157

Appearance

Izuna's appearance is chiefly established through his resemblance to Uchiha Aosui, whose artificial body was modeled largely after him. Aosui is repeatedly described as extremely similar to Izuna, though more reserved and steady than Izuna's remembered, more flamboyant bearing. 95 116 270

  • Closely resembles Uchiha Aosui; the resemblance is strong enough for Madara to mistake Aosui's fighting style and image for Izuna's return. 112 116
  • Possesses the Uchiha Clan's scarlet Sharingan, later advancing to the Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan. 142 232
  • Is associated with a classic horizontal-blade stance and an aggressive sword-fighting posture. 132 146

Personality

Izuna is pragmatic, observant, and fiercely concerned with the survival and dignity of the Uchiha Clan. Even while hating Tobirama, he insists that an enemy's strengths must be recognized and learned from rather than dismissed out of pride. He considers the Sharingan an advantage for accelerating growth, not a substitute for developing ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. 141

He is more cautious than Madara when the clan's welfare is at stake. Izuna advises Aosui not to pursue Danzō so aggressively that the Uchiha's improved situation in Konoha is endangered, and he prefers securing concrete gains over pursuing an ideal outcome at any cost. 142

Despite his strategic nature, Izuna acknowledges that his own lack of rationality contributed to past mistakes. He contrasts this with Tobirama's excessive rationality, believing that both extremes created needless conflict between them. 177

Outside battle, Izuna was described as warm toward his clansmen and considerably less restrained in romance than Tobirama. His experiences nevertheless made him unusually attentive to emotional instability, relationships, and the Uchiha Clan's tendency to awaken power through intense feelings. 140 163 177

Abilities & Skills

Mangekyō Sharingan: Kuramitsumi

Kuramitsumi is the combined name of Izuna's two Mangekyō Sharingan Dōjutsu. It manifests as a malevolent aura that enhances his physical performance and allows him to exploit the space he has moved through. 142

  • Greatly increases speed, strength, and neural reaction speed while active. 142
  • Can form invisible, non-attacking clones along areas touched by the aura—effectively Izuna's recent movement trajectory. 142
  • A living target touched by one of these clones briefly stagnates, as if possessed. 142
  • Izuna can consume a clone to exchange positions with it. 142
  • The aura's practical duration is roughly one minute. 142
  • Creating clones and switching positions consumes substantial Dōjutsu Power; repeated use rapidly increases the cost and can exhaust his power immediately. 142

Through the Yata Imperial Spirit mark, Izuna can appear as a conscious spiritual presence within Tobirama/Aosui and lend his abilities to the host. 140 141

  • Restores Izuna's skills and Mangekyō Sharingan in spiritual form, though at reduced strength. 141
  • Allows his Dōjutsu Power to combine with Tobirama's own abilities. 141
  • Functions most effectively when Izuna and Tobirama's minds are aligned. 141
  • Lets Izuna directly coordinate with Tobirama during combat, including their fight against Minato. 146
  • Enabled the pair to develop enough mutual understanding to share Dōjutsu, including Limbo Clones. 267

Swordsmanship and High-Speed Combat

Izuna's signature fighting style combines exceptional Body Flicker movement, Sharingan perception, and vicious swordsmanship. He overwhelms opponents before they can establish a ninjutsu rhythm. 111 116

  • Pressures enemies at close range to interrupt hand seals; Izuna considers four seals the effective upper limit under such pressure. 116
  • Uses the Sharingan to disrupt an opponent's battle rhythm and exploit fleeting openings. 116
  • Relies on extreme confidence in reaction speed rather than fixed attack patterns. 116
  • Can combine sword strikes with Fire Release, Sharingan genjutsu, and Ash Fire-infused blade attacks. 146

Uchiha Training and Analysis

Izuna is a capable mentor who frames the Sharingan as a tool for comprehensive growth rather than an end in itself. 141

  • Encourages Uchiha to use the Sharingan's copying and perception advantages to improve ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu. 141
  • Warns that overreliance on ocular power limits growth against truly powerful opponents. 141
  • Provides Tobirama with practical advice on Uchiha emotion, romantic misunderstandings, and Kekkei Genkai Disease. 163 177
  • Helps Tobirama observe chakra pathways and brain-related abnormalities while treating Tomie Uchiha. 164

Rinnegan and Limbo

After receiving a specially prepared resurrection body, Izuna awakens a genuine Rinnegan. 232

  • Possesses the Power of All Things through his Rinnegan. 232
  • Uses Limbo Clones jointly with Tobirama to block attacks that would otherwise strike them directly. 267
  • Joins Tobirama in using Sage Dōjutsu: Yomi Possession, activating Dōjutsu Power within Hashirama's chakra to poison Isshiki from within Madara's body. 269

Equipment

  • Dōenmaru — Izuna's katana, later returned to the Uchiha Clan and entrusted to Aosui. It is associated with Izuna's characteristic horizontal-blade stance and can be wreathed in Ash Fire during combat. 132 146

Relationships

  • Uchiha Madara — His elder brother and the person to whom Izuna entrusted the Uchiha Clan's future. Izuna later confronts Madara over his actions, initially mistakes him for Tobirama after his resurrection, and eventually reconciles with him. 88 116 232
  • Senju Tobirama / Uchiha Aosui — Former battlefield rival turned spiritual partner. Izuna initially mistakes Tobirama's artificial Uchiha body for their shared descendant, then guides and lends power to him through the Yata Imperial Spirit link. 140 142 146 270
  • Uchiha Clan — Izuna's foremost concern. He sees Aosui as the clan's hope and urges the next generation to become strong without being consumed by the Sharingan's power. 141 142
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi — Izuna comes to respect Hiruzen's governance and Konoha's improved treatment of the Uchiha, despite remaining wary of the village's political risks. 142 155
  • Uzumaki Mito — A formidable figure Izuna warns Tobirama not to underestimate; Mito later pressures Izuna over his intentions toward Aosui and verifies the unusual chakra within the body. 141 156 157
  • Uchiha Obito — Obito assists in clarifying Madara's identity to Izuna and brings him into the Kamui Dimension for a private discussion. 232
  • Alternate Universe Madara — Izuna helps arrange his resurrection and persuades him to become a force pushing the alternate shinobi world toward internal reform rather than simple destruction. 254
