Background

The Sharingan is the Uchiha Clan’s hereditary dōjutsu and is regarded as one of Konohagakure’s strongest bloodlines. In the Warring States era, Mangekyo Sharingan wielders such as Uchiha Madara and Uchiha Izuna were remembered as disasters to the Senju Clan; Goketsu Senju states that only Hashirama Senju’s Wood Release could oppose them. After their era, the Mangekyo was believed to have disappeared until Byakuya awakened it. 34 36

Ordinarily, awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan requires exceptional talent and extreme emotional stimulation. Uchiha Mikoto awakens hers amid overwhelming rage and grief during her battle with Uchiha Fugaku. Byakuya instead evolves his Three-Tomoe Sharingan through his Negative Energy System, bypassing the ordinary requirement. 4 99

Appearance

The Sharingan manifests as crimson eyes marked by black tomoe. Its more advanced forms alter the tomoe into specialized patterns.
