Background / History

Tsunade is Hashirama Senju’s granddaughter, the head of the declining Senju Clan, and one of Konoha’s Sannin. Despite her standing and exceptional medical ability, she is infamous for compulsive gambling and catastrophic losses, earning the nickname “Legendary Sheep.” 26

After losing heavily at a casino, Tsunade evades the Uchiha Clan Security Force by transforming into a blonde little girl. Bai Ye identifies her disguise, leaving her humiliated and openly hostile toward him and the Uchiha Clan. 26 27

Her anger escalates into a battle with Bai Ye. Tsunade attacks with destructive taijutsu and a sealing technique, but Bai Ye evades her through Sharingan perception and Kamui. 28 29 After Bai Ye captures and coerces her by threatening her reputation, her brother Nawaki, and the Senju Clan, Tsunade agrees to train medical ninjas for the Uchiha Clan. 31

Bai Ye subsequently heals Tsunade’s injured leg with the same medical ninjutsu used by the Senju Clan. Confused by an Uchiha using her clan’s techniques, she begins to question whether the Senju and Uchiha share a deeper connection. She becomes the Uchiha Clan’s medical captain and improves its hospital system and medical-ninja training. 32

Tsunade later learns that Hiruzen Sarutobi ordered attacks against the Uchiha Clan. The confirmation from a Sarutobi ninja under genjutsu shatters her trust in her former teacher, but Bai Ye reminds her of her responsibility as Senju clan head, pushing her to recover from the collapse. 89

Her anger toward Konoha’s old leadership deepens when she discovers that Root experiments used Hashirama’s cells. She responds by attacking Root personnel with the Strength of a Hundred. 90

Her gambling habit is a major weakness: she readily loses money, flees debts to protect the Senju name, and is immediately distracted by the prospect of gambling with the Senju Clan’s recovered rent money. 26 38

Tsunade initially reacts with shock, but accepts the position with broad support from Konoha’s clan heads. Under the new arrangement, Uchiha members become the village’s ANBU and protect the Hokage. 112

When Byakuya arrives and embraces her, Tsunade immediately counters with chakra-enhanced taijutsu. She cannot break his hold or defeat him, and Kakashi, Might Guy, Yamato, and other Konoha ninja are likewise overwhelmed. 150 151

This version of Tsunade remains loyal to Hiruzen’s teachings despite knowledge of his past misconduct, a loyalty attributed to his indoctrination in a world where Bai Ye was absent. 154
