Background / History

Wu Changkong is a former Shrek Academy student who becomes the instructor of East Sea Academy's Class Five. Su Qiu specifically requests placement in his class because Wu Changkong is a sword user and an appropriate sparring partner for developing his own sword techniques. 14

At East Sea Academy, he declares that even the weakest students can become powerhouses under his instruction. He rejects the idea of inherently worthless Martial Souls, instead holding that only people themselves can be inadequate. 17

His cultivation stagnates at the peak of Soul Emperor due to grief over the death of his lover, Long Bing. Su Qiu does not urge him to let go; instead, he gives Wu Changkong a goal—cultivate until he is strong enough to cross time and see her again. This restores his resolve and immediately enables his breakthrough to Soul Sage. 92

Before his students enroll at Shrek Academy, Wu Changkong secretly returns to apologize to his teacher, Zhuo Shi. He kneels outside the Inner Court building until Yali and Su Qiu help secure Zhuo Shi's forgiveness. 112 113
