Background
Roy transmigrates into the body of a thirteen-year-old commoner, the son of farmers. He awakens a Personal Template that records his attributes, skills, experience, and storage space; initially, he earns experience by absorbing sunlight and killing animals. His first kill is a rooster, an act that immediately makes him consider the consequences of violence and his future reputation 2.
To improve his family’s prospects, Roy becomes a butcher’s apprentice. The work strengthens his body and Willpower, gives him his first passive skill, Slaughter, and funds the purchase of a dagger and Gabriel, a compact hand crossbow 6. Following the deaths of Brandon, Fletcher, and Pusig at the hands of the Grave Witch, he joins Letho, Oakes, and Cerret in hunting it. After the Witchers weaken the creature, Roy delivers the final blow and buries the victims he finds in its lair 12 13.
Roy accepts Letho’s invitation to travel as a Witcher’s assistant after securing an offer to escort his parents to Novigrad. He chooses the declining School of the Viper over remaining in Kaye Village, believing that Witcher training offers his best chance to survive the dangerous world ahead 13 14.
He survives the first Trial of the Grasses at the Meritelli Temple, officially becoming a Viper Witcher. The process transforms his body and grants him Magic, Witcher Senses, superior resistance to disease and toxins, and dark-gold vertical pupils 117. He later completes a second and third Trial of the Grasses, expanding his ties beyond the Viper School to the Griffin and Wolf schools 388 563.
Much later, Alzure reveals that Roy is a replica created by the civilization-devouring Supreme Being. Roy rejects assimilation, awakens Advent, and asserts his own identity rather than accepting the entity’s influence 586 587.
Appearance
Roy changes dramatically through Witcher mutations, Elder Blood evolution, and secondary mutation.
- At thirteen, he is 1.68 meters tall, well-proportioned, with faint muscle definition and increasingly sharp features 34.
- After the first Trial of the Grasses, he reaches 1.73 meters, develops a lean, muscular build, and gains dark-gold vertical pupils, short hair, and thin eyebrows 117.
- After the second Trial, he reaches 1.8 meters; his left eye becomes partly silvery-gray, creating heterochromia 388.
- After his third Trial, both pupils become silver-gray; he retains a proportioned, resilient physique rather than Letho’s massive build 563.
- Following secondary mutation, he has elfin ears, silver-gray irises, a sharper aura, and a taller, more powerful body 608.
Personality
Roy is pragmatic, driven, and intensely committed to self-improvement. From his first days in the Witcher world, he treats strength, money, training, and information as practical tools for protecting himself and those close to him 2 6.
He is also notably more compassionate than several of his Witcher companions. He teaches Toya to read and write, helps Old Hack investigate Basher’s murder, and insists on tracking bandits who massacred a village despite Letho, Oakes, and Cerret considering the matter outside their priorities 34 123 239.
His ambition extends beyond individual survival. He works to rebuild Witcher society through unity, mutual aid, equality, and development, eventually becoming the Brotherhood’s elected leader 363 545.
