Background / History
Warring States Period
Hikari lost her parents in war and subsequently endured harsh treatment from her own clan. After awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan, she was trained as a weapon against the Senju. The Uchiha also transplanted additional dōjutsu into her to increase her combat power 38 63.
Her battlefield dominance alarmed rival clans. The Senju arranged cooperation with the Uzumaki and Sarutobi, while the Uchiha, overconfident in Hikari’s strength, sent her to attack the Uzumaki. Senju and Sarutobi forces ambushed her en route and sealed her beneath a mountain ridge at great cost 48.
Discovery and Release
Takeyasu learned about Hikari through the Uchiha chronicles and assigned Sarutobi Sasuke to locate her seal. The search led to a mountainous region near the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Whirlpools 38 48.
When Takeyasu and Minako Uzumaki reached her, Hikari was suspended in an underground chakra crystal, still holding a blood-stained katana. Yachihoko had been slowly absorbing the surrounding chakra to sustain her in a state between life and death 53.
Minako dismantled the seal. Hikari instinctively prepared to attack, still reacting to the battle preceding her imprisonment, but exhaustion rendered her unconscious. Takeyasu brought her to Konoha Hospital, where examinations found no physical dysfunction despite her long confinement 54 61.
A New Home
Hikari moved into a spare room in Takeyasu and Naori’s home. Initially, she called Takeyasu her “master” and offered herself as his subordinate. He rejected that arrangement, promised that she would no longer be treated as a weapon, and invited her to call him “brother” instead 61 63.
Kaori’s affection helped Hikari relax around the household. Takeyasu also gave her Tachibana’s summoning contract and arranged for her to become familiar with the clan grounds and Konoha 63.
Appearance
Hikari has long, ink-black hair, black eyes when her Sharingan is inactive, and a fair complexion. Her appearance remained preserved during her sealing 61 74 105.
- Training clothes: A long-sleeved black outfit bearing the Uchiha crest, ninja boots, and a high ponytail modeled after Takeyasu’s hairstyle 74.
- Military appearance: Wears a samurai-style combat uniform with her hair in a high ponytail and a sword at her side 179.
- Casual clothing: Wears pale-blue and white dresses in later appearances 94 116.
- Cat-themed belongings: Uses a cat plush toy, cat-print blanket, cat-patterned slippers, and kitty pajamas 74 82.
Personality
Hikari’s early reserve reflects her upbringing as a disposable weapon. During the Warring States period, she disregarded both other people’s lives and her own; when found sealed, her expression suggested that death would have been a release rather than something to fear 53. After joining Takeyasu’s household, she gradually becomes more expressive, but still experiences loneliness even while recognizing that her new life is safe and affectionate 63 74.
As an instructor, she deliberately imitates the stern Uchiha trainers of her childhood. Her intimidating manner conceals careful control of her strength and an ability to identify her students’ mistakes 75 76. Later, her approach becomes harsher: she argues that controlled experiences of pain and death, followed by resurrection, could stimulate students’ growth and strengthen Uchiha dōjutsu 206.
Her attachment to Takeyasu develops into jealousy and possessiveness. She monitors his whereabouts, uses knowledge of his affairs as leverage, and resents being left behind while other women become pregnant 109 162 180. Nevertheless, she does not let personal resentment dictate every decision: during the Great Tomb campaign, she accepts Minako’s advice to delay intervention rather than act impulsively 182.
Hikari remains uncomfortable in crowds and dislikes lengthy political meetings. She would rather read light novels at home and uses a shadow clone to attend the supreme council while seeking out Takeyasu herself 179 224.
Abilities & Skills
Yachihoko
Yachihoko is Hikari’s signature Mangekyō technique. Its marks connect her to other people’s chakra and mental energy, supporting both personal growth and large-scale chakra distribution 38 94 101.
- Chakra absorption: Sustains her during imprisonment by slowly drawing chakra from the crystal surrounding her 53.
- Energy harvesting: Marks can intercept the chakra and mental energy of deceased ninja and return them to Hikari 94.
- Chakra transfer: Can distribute absorbed chakra to others rather than retaining it entirely for herself 101.
- Tracking: Lets her locate Takeyasu’s true body even when he leaves shadow clones in Konoha 101 113.
- Mass deployment: Takeyasu develops the technique for marking ninja entering Black Horn Domain. These marks also contain his chakra and dōjutsu power, supporting his Ascension Point collection 94.
- Army formation potential: Takeyasu proposes using the marks to pool Uchiha chakra and dōjutsu power into a commander, then return that power after battle 101.
- Limits: The marks can disappear. Their disappearance causes Hikari to rush to the Hokage Building to check on Takeyasu 102.
Sharingan and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan
Hikari possesses the Mangekyō Sharingan from her original era and later evolves it into the Eternal Mangekyō without a documented eye replacement 38 116.
- Combat perception: Tracks her students’ actions closely enough to control her attacks and explain their tactical errors 76.
- Amaterasu: Has access to the technique, though Cocytus’s straight-line speed is too great for her to activate it in time during their duel 196.
- Power transfer: Takeyasu identifies Yachihoko as a possible means of transferring Madara’s Eternal Mangekyō power into Naori’s eyes. This is presented as a proposed method, not a completed procedure 136.
- Transplanted techniques: Her former clan implanted additional dōjutsu, but the supplied account does not identify each one 38.
Susanoo
Hikari’s Susanoo develops from a skeletal manifestation into a colossal battlefield construct with a massive chakra sword 86 193.
- Skeletal form: Demonstrates the first stage to her students, drawing the attention of other young Konoha ninja 86.
- Battlefield protection: Operates from the crystal atop Susanoo’s head during the Great Tomb campaign 193.
- Heavy offense: Cuts a Shining Moon-level demon in two and overwhelms other demons of that rank 193.
- Warrior God Blade: Delivers attacks whose aftershocks can alter the surrounding terrain 196.
- Limits: Susanoo’s destructive strength does not guarantee a hit against faster enemies. Cocytus repeatedly avoids its blade and prevents her from assisting other fighters 196.
Combat Instruction and Command
Hikari combines practical combat training with frontline leadership 75 182 188.
- Easily defeats the training team of Orochimaru, Tsunade, Jiraiya, Dan Katō, and Hiruko, then explains their weaknesses 76.
- Refuses her students’ request to graduate early for combat in Black Horn Domain 94.
- Monitors reconnaissance alongside Minako and military advisers through a crystal ball 182.
- Separates combatants to prevent further losses and receives responsibility for handling the Great Tomb operation 188.
Other Techniques and Limitations
- Body Flicker: Uses it within the academy 94.
- Shadow Clone Jutsu: Creates a clone to attend the supreme council in her place 224.
- Sage Mode limitation: Her chakra reserves are so large that the natural energy she absorbs is insufficient to establish the required balance 94.
- Flying Thunder God: Explicitly tells her students that she does not know the technique 86.
- Resurrection Magic: Expresses interest in learning it for student training; mastery is not established 206.
