Background / History

The Heavenly Dao first recognizes Di Jun and Eastern Emperor Taiyi's Heavenly Court, granting merit to the Yao Race and turning their previously loose alliance into a legitimate force capable of attracting other races. 1

When the Heavenly Tribulation Great Dao emerges, the Heavenly Dao responds by descending six Dao Fruit authorities to the Demon Heavenly Court. The authorities are intended to administer tribulations, but Eastern Emperor Taiyi attempts to forcibly refine them and seize control of the system. After the resulting disruption, the Heavenly Dao suppresses the ripples and divides the Dao Fruits back into six weakened portions. 7 9 16

The Heavenly Dao later accepts the establishment of the Heavenly Demon Great Dao and nourishes it with vast power, allowing it to become a cycle and tribulation of the Immortal Dao. This development obstructs Hongjun's integration with the Dao, while also making the Heavenly Demon Great Dao a component of the Heavenly Dao's larger operation. 57 114 233

Hongjun further perfects its mechanisms by establishing the Heaven and Earth Calamity. Rather than relying solely on great calamities to disperse Tribulation Qi, the new system assigns tribulations directly to individual beings according to their actions and Karma. The resulting evolution increases the Heavenly Dao's authority but also intensifies the pressure on Hongjun as he integrates with it. 82

Chu Xuan later uses Karma to force an exchange with the Heavenly Dao. Because it has no personal consciousness and evaluates matters according to its own benefit, it accepts the deal despite Hongjun's opposition, granting Chu Xuan a share of Qi Luck Authority tied to its core power of titles. 108 109

As the Yao Race is pressured to establish the Primordial World Heavenly Court, the Heavenly Dao demands that the Heavenly Court and its gods become links in its operation. When the Yao gods finally accept their authorities, the Heavenly Court is reforged into a connected whole, completing another portion of the Heavenly Dao's order and awakening Hongjun within it. 170 171 204

Its authority is subsequently weakened by the rise of Reincarnation and the Human Race's alignment with the Earthly Dao. The Heavenly Dao is forced to release portions of its authority into Reincarnation, then suffers simultaneous backlash from Heavenly Tribulation Authority, Heavenly Demon Authority, the Human Race, and Nuwa's saintly merit. 186 192 211

Personality

The Heavenly Dao possesses no independent consciousness. It permits actions—including Hongjun's integration and Chu Xuan's schemes—when it judges them beneficial to its own operation. 108

Despite its lack of intelligence, it displays instinctive reactions. It experiences joy when new laws perfect its operation, and anger or instability when its authority is continuously divided or diverted into Reincarnation. 82 186 192

Its behavior is fundamentally regulatory rather than moral: it requires names and rules before laws can be enacted, and it expands its power through increasingly detailed systems of authority, calamity, merit, and destiny. 82
