Background / History

Chu Xuan first appears as a newly born Golden Immortal Lesser Shaman before the Twelve Ancestral Shamans. Though vastly beneath them in cultivation, he openly warns them that founding the Wu Clan will lead to its destruction. His knowledge of their private deliberations makes the Ancestral Shamans suspicious, while Houtu accepts responsibility for his conduct and protects him. 2

After awakening his bloodline true body, Chu Xuan chooses the Great Earth Law from the many laws available to him. His breakthrough and formation of an Ancestral Shaman True Body lead the Twelve Ancestral Shamans to accept him as their little brother. Dijiang subsequently assigns Houtu to guide his cultivation. 19

Chu Xuan conceals his Ancestral Shaman status rather than establish a tribe of his own. He instead seeks freedom to act outside the Wu Clan, claiming that Hongjun’s Second Sermon will bring a threat to the clan. 20

Personality

Chu Xuan is audacious, calculating, and unusually direct for someone who frequently works through deception. He warns the Ancestral Shamans of catastrophe despite their overwhelming strength, then repeatedly chooses secrecy when revealing his full plans would expose his position. 2 20 33

He treats the Calamity of Killing as a political opportunity. Rather than confront every opponent directly, he favors provoking factions into conflict, cultivating useful relationships, and turning other powers’ ambitions against them. 40 44 45

Despite his strategic ruthlessness, Chu Xuan is socially composed and often humorous. He can flatter rivals, defuse tense exchanges, and present fabricated motives convincingly enough to mislead powerful figures such as the Queen Mother of the West. 39 41 43 45
