Background
Hongjun is a Chaos Demon God and Outer Realm Visitor rather than a native being of the Great Desolation. After Pangu created the Great Desolation, he refined Shi Chen and Yang Mei, intending to refine the Heavenly Dao, reclaim his origin, suppress the remaining Chaos Demon Gods, and use their origins to reach the ultimate peak of the All Heavens. 235 236
He became the Dao Ancestor and Heavenly Dao Spokesperson through a long series of calculations. According to Di Jun, Hongjun sealed Shen Ni, benefited from the Dragon-Han Tribulation, acquired the treasures of fallen contemporaries, and used the Great Desolation's order as the foundation of his authority. 94
When Di Jun established the Heavenly Court, Hongjun awakened in Purple Cloud Palace and watched from afar, hoping that Di Jun would not disappoint him. 3 Hongjun later revealed that Di Jun had originally been only a “casual move”: he had sensed Di Jun's True Spirit merging with the Great Sun's origin and recognized his future potential. 137
Appearance
Hongjun first appears as an old Daoist seated within Purple Cloud Palace, a palace entwined with Three Thousand Order Divine Prohibitions and linked to the Three Thousand Great Daos. 3
- His arrival is accompanied by Great Daos extending beneath each step, with myriad mysteries and heavenly radiance converging around him. 108
- When he mobilizes his authority, the Heavenly Dao Golden Wheel, Three Thousand Great Daos, boundless mist, and primordial chaos manifest around him. 117
- At higher levels of power, his eyes turn pure white and his presence causes Heaven and Earth to tremble. 182
Personality
Hongjun is patient, calculating, and intensely possessive of control. He considers the Primordial Continent his chessboard and its living beings his pieces, believing that variables can ultimately be contained within his plans. 26
He is also pragmatic. Although he repeatedly desires to eliminate Di Jun, he delays acting whenever Di Jun remains useful to his larger scheme or when the potential cost is too severe. 162 180 Di Jun's continued growth gradually turns Hongjun's confidence into caution, frustration, and eventually open desperation. 133 222
Despite recognizing that his position has worsened, Hongjun refuses to surrender his ambitions. He chooses to fight Di Jun in the final battle even after acknowledging that the outcome is effectively decided. 235
