Background / History
Harry spent more than ten years living at Number Four, Privet Drive with Vernon and Petunia Dursley and their son Dudley. The family neglects and mistreats him; Vernon orders him to remain hidden whenever visitors arrive, while Harry sees his home as a prison-like place 198 200.
Although widely regarded in the wizarding world as the child who defeated the Dark Lord, Harry receives little affection or recognition from the Dursleys. On his birthday, he is distressed that Ron and Hermione have not written to him and quietly sings “Happy birthday” to himself in the garden 198.
Harry enters Hogwarts the following year and is sorted into Gryffindor to great excitement from the house table 95. He becomes close friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger; together, they investigate the Philosopher’s Stone and later confront the suspicion surrounding the Chamber of Secrets 118 291.
During his third year, Harry learns that Sirius Black—whom he believes betrayed his parents—is his godfather. Linley helps capture Black and administer Veritaserum, allowing Harry to learn that Black is innocent and that Peter Pettigrew was the Potters’ true Secret-Keeper 393 401 404.

Personality

He is curious and impulsive when faced with mysteries or personal revelations. He investigates Hogwarts secrets with Ron and Hermione, sneaks into Hogsmeade after receiving the Marauder’s Map, and becomes intensely emotional when he believes Sirius Black betrayed his parents 118 389 401.
Harry trusts Linley deeply and eventually confides his worries to him, though he initially tries to conceal what is troubling him 387.
