History

Foundation and old administration

Konoha was jointly founded by the Senju and Uchiha clans, with its name stated to derive from the Uchiha. By the time of the Uchiha clan's destruction, the Senju had largely withdrawn from public life. 132

Under the Second Hokage's system, the Uchiha were shaped into a weapon for external conflict while also becoming the focus of negative public opinion inside the village. They were politically marginalized, restricted from advancement, and confined to the outskirts through the Uchiha Compound. 96 127

Night of the Clan Annihilation

During the Night of the Clan Annihilation, Itachi Uchiha and a masked accomplice attacked the Uchiha Compound, with the masked man targeting the Police Headquarters and its Sharingan stockpile. 2

Konoha's leadership subsequently presented Uchiha Ingetsu as the clan's exterminator and accepted his defection with surviving Uchiha as the official explanation. Sarutobi Hiruzen sealed the Uchiha Compound and restricted travel in an attempt to control the spread of information. 13 93

The loss of the Uchiha, Danzō, Root personnel, and other forces severely weakened the village. Konoha mobilized almost all available forces—supplemented by Sunagakure, minor villages, rogue ninja, and bandits—to pursue Ingetsu's squad; the total force approached ten thousand. 59

Siege and fall

Konoha's weakened position drew attacks from Iwagakure, Kumogakure, and eventually Sunagakure. Its protective barrier was expected to last only one day against the three-village siege. 115 118

Civilians were evacuated into the shelter beneath Hokage Rock, with clan members prioritized ahead of ordinary residents in the evacuation line. 118

The Uchiha entered the conflict after the invading villages had devastated Konoha, defeated the remaining opposition, and expelled the old Konoha factions and foreign invaders. Approximately 1,500 former Konoha ninja escaped with Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura. 138

Uchiha occupation

After taking control, Yinyue declared that the Uchiha would rebuild Konoha on the land they had helped found. He also declared war on the Ninja World, arguing that the old order had perpetuated division and hatred. 132

Yinyue became Hokage of the new Konoha. The former clan territories of the Hyuga, Ino–Shika–Chō, Aburame, Inuzuka, and other major families were left vacant after their expulsion. 149

The new village initially possessed only four to five hundred core ninja, even after the resurrection of deceased Uchiha through Impure World Reincarnation. The revived Uchiha and surviving Uchiha squad members were assigned to administrative departments to fill the leadership shortage. 145 149

Reconstruction and renewed destruction

Ōnoki and Iwagakure rebuilt Konoha with Earth Release, beginning with the Hokage Building and expanding into residential districts. 139

The first reconstruction restored the village one-to-one, including streets, shops, parks, shelters, and the main gate. The Iwagakure forces also filled the crater created by the battle involving the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, Perfect Susanoo, and Wood-Style Great Buddha. 174

Konoha was later destroyed again during the Ten-Tails crisis. Its residents and allied village populations subsequently returned as reconstruction began anew. 301 328

Governance

• Hokage: Uchiha Yinyue/Ingetsu assumed the Hokage's office after the Uchiha takeover. 140 149
• Administration: Tsunade handled personnel appointments and village affairs, while the Uchiha elders and squad members became department heads and core officials. 145 149
• Political status: The new Konoha separated from the Land of Fire and rejected the former model of one ninja village serving one country. 141

Following the initial Uchiha takeover, the ruling clan distributed resources among the remaining residents to prevent internal conflict. 174

Role in Ninja World Unification

Konoha absorbed the other Great Shinobi Villages and became the focal point of resistance against the Ōtsutsuki and other external invaders. 482 496

Several years after the first Uchiha takeover, Konoha incorporated all known human civilizations in the Ninja World into its territory in order to centralize resources for defense and development. 482
