Background / History

Wanyan Lie led the Blood Wolf Tribe's campaign into the Northern Territory. Under his command, thirty thousand barbarian soldiers and five hundred barbarian martial artists captured Wolf Fang Pass, leaving only eight hundred survivors from its three-thousand-man garrison. He then directed operations against Iron Wall City. 17

During Li Xuan's night raid on Wolf Fang Pass, Wanyan Lie remained composed amid coordinated fires in his camp and ordered Wolf Cavalry to search for the infiltrators rather than recklessly committing his troops. Li Xuan and Zhao Wuji nevertheless ambushed him in his command tent. 18

Zhao Wuji betrayed Li Xuan under an agreement between Elder Zhao and Wanyan Lie, delivering Li Xuan in exchange for gold. Li Xuan used a Blood Burning Pill to temporarily match Wanyan Lie's realm, severely cutting his chest and piercing his torso with a broken saber before escaping with Chen Feng. 18

Wanyan Lie survived but suffered lingering damage to his lungs and foundation. His injuries disrupted the siege's command structure and undermined barbarian morale, while Li Xuan repeatedly targeted him in subsequent clashes. 20

He returned for Iron Wall City's final battle alongside the Blood Eagle Tribe's forces and the Great Shaman's Wolf Soul ritual. After Li Xuan destroyed the Wolf Soul and killed the Great Shaman, Wanyan Lie personally challenged him to their final duel. 24 25 26

He is also a disciplined commander. During the night raid on Wolf Fang Pass, he refuses to be drawn into chaos by the arson attacks and orders his troops to hold their positions while Wolf Cavalry hunts the attackers. 18

His repeated defeats by Li Xuan turn his confidence into obsession. Though aware that the blood-red pill could destroy his cultivation, he takes it solely to kill Li Xuan, demonstrating desperation and ruthless resolve. 26
