Background / History

Gurqin was the Shaman King of the barbarian tribes three centuries before the main story. His influence remained centered on the Black Abyss, a forbidden region in the Northern Territory whose depths contain dangers older than Gurqin himself. 46 52

Thirty years before the present events, Qin Lie and Yan Wugui entered the abandoned mine to rescue their master. Gurqin had already refined their master into a Walking Corpse and used the body as a vessel. Qin Lie hesitated to strike, allowing Gurqin to corrupt his right arm; Qin then tore off that arm and used its power to seal Gurqin's incarnation beneath the mine. Gurqin's true body, however, had always remained beneath the Black Abyss. 51 52

While his incarnation was sealed, Gurqin spent decades extending his influence across the land. His scattered Wolf Souls, shadow creatures, marks, and other creations served as his “eyes,” guarded routes to the Black Abyss, and spread Yin Fiend corruption. 42 46

Gurqin's main body is a soul-based construct condensed from Yin Fiend Qi rather than a stable physical form. It can reform after being shattered, but each reconstruction expends soul power. 49

Story Role / Major Arcs

Mine Incident

The entity calling itself the Barbarian King reveals that Li Xuan bears its soul seed and offers to refine the imprint in exchange for an artifact from the underground river. Its warning is followed by the activation of similar corruption among Li Xuan's companions. 38

Black Stone Market

Gurqin's shadow creatures abduct townspeople and operate from a hidden cave. Through Ghost Face, Gurqin gives Li Xuan one month to choose between siding with him or the Crimson Firmament Sect. 42

Destruction of the Clone

Li Xuan destroys Gurqin's mine clone after cultivating the Red Sun Scripture. The victory reveals that the clone was only one extension of Gurqin's power, while the true body remains active elsewhere. 44

Black Abyss Confrontations

Li Xuan's first expedition reaches Gurqin's lair and encounters the main body's manifestation through Zhou Wen's corpse. Unable to defeat it, Li Xuan retreats and reports that Gurqin's true body is far stronger than the mine clone. 47 48

The Crimson Firmament Sect subsequently identifies Li Xuan's Crimson Blood True Gang Qi as the key to harming Gurqin's true form and organizes a second expedition to the Black Abyss. 49

Death

Li Xuan's team ultimately kills Gurqin in the Black Abyss. Yan Wugui confirms that Li Xuan accomplished what Qin Lie could not: destroying Gurqin rather than merely sealing an incarnation. 51
