Personality
Michael treats the Holy City's authority as inseparable from his own ambitions. He initially views killing Chen Lang as an assessment achievement that would justify his return to power. After becoming the city's de facto leader, he seeks to eliminate dissidents and bring the Five Continents Magic Association directly under Holy City control 338 354 355.
His patience is strategic rather than merciful. He postpones intervention to expose hidden opponents and complete his sixteen-wing breakthrough, but abandons that approach when Fusion Magic threatens the Archangels' military advantage. He prioritizes preserving their supremacy over the benefits the new magic could offer humanity 355 367 368.
Michael's confidence deteriorates when confronted with stronger opponents and hidden interference. He envies Uriel's strength, resents Chen Lang's superiority, and becomes reckless when Ding Yumian repeatedly disrupts him. Nevertheless, after Uriel's death, he refuses to flee or surrender and makes a final stand for his own dignity and the Holy City's glory 373 375 382.
Appearance
- Sixteen wings: At his breakthrough, they are described as pure white, marked with faint divine patterns and surrounded by sacred golden light. During battle, they are described as azure or green 366 375 382.
- Golden blood: Shaja's attack on his wings draws golden blood; his final defeat also causes it to spill 375 383.
- Azure staff: In combat, he carries a slender staff topped with a large Holy Crystal 373.
Abilities & Skills
Angelic Divine Power
Michael's sixteen-winged form gives him enough strength to overwhelm the fourteen-winged Shaja in direct combat 373.
- His wings are a source of divine power; damage to them worsens his combat condition 375.
- He can combine staff strikes with dense volleys of holy feathers 373.
- Sixteen wings do not make him Uriel's equal: witnessing Uriel fight reveals a much greater gap than Michael expected 373 380.
Holy Feathers and Feather Spirit Birds
Michael manifests azure or cyan feathers carrying powerful divine force. He can also animate small Feather Spirit birds and position them around an opponent 373 374.
- Holy Feather Divine Punishment: Converts feathers from his sixteen wings into a sky-filling barrage of sharp blades, injuring Shaja's wings 374.
- Feather Spirit birds: Gather in coordinated formations to prepare a devastating spell 374.
- Limit: When Ding Yumian disrupts his magical circulation, the birds lose support, scatter, and dissipate 374.
Light Shields
Michael condenses holy light into defensive barriers, including a thin cyan shield used to intercept Shaja's sword 374.
- The shield breaks, but gives him enough time to retreat and stabilize his magic 374.
- His final shield cannot stop Chen Lang's Thunder Battle Hammer 383.
Sacred Contempt Shockwave
Michael's ultimate killing move channels his holy power through the Azure Radiance Sacred Contempt Scepter. The weapon expands to tens of meters, then releases a massive azure shockwave 382.
- Its collision with Chen Lang's hammer collapses part of the desert and tears open the surrounding void 382.
- The technique fails in a single clash, and the scepter is completely destroyed 382.
Mental Resistance
Michael possesses strong mental defenses and resistance to psychic interference, but Ding Yumian's Forbidden Curse Mind System powers can still disrupt him 374.
- Her interference interrupts spellcasting, magical rhythm, and movement prediction 374.
- He repeatedly probes for the hidden attacker but cannot pinpoint her position 374 375.
- The disruption allows Shaja to survive attacks and maintain a stalemate despite Michael's superior strength 375.
Holy City Plant Magic Array
Michael establishes a specialized Plant System Magic Array within the Holy City, drawing on the city's origin and numerous Sacred Incantations 366.
- He intends to combine it with his sixteen-winged power after luring Chen Lang into the city 366.
- He abandons the immediate plan because he lacks reliable knowledge of Chen Lang's weaknesses or a workable lure 366.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Azure Radiance Sacred Contempt Scepter — His life-bound Magic Tool, engraved with ancient angelic divine patterns and set with a large azure sacred crystal. It grows from roughly one meter to tens of meters when empowered for Sacred Contempt Shockwave. Chen Lang destroys it with the Thunder Battle Hammer 382.
Relationships
- Chen Lang — Assessment opportunity turned principal enemy. Michael seeks to kill him, suppress his followers, and eradicate Fusion Magic, but ultimately suffers a decisive defeat at his hands 338 368 383.
- Uriel, previous-generation Archangel — Senior battle angel and campaign ally. Michael fears that Uriel's return could cost him political control, then discovers that Uriel's combat strength far exceeds his own 354 373.
- Uriel, contemporary assessment candidate — Rival for an opportunity to establish authority. Michael regrets that this Uriel selects Chen Lang as an assessment target before he can 338.
- Raphael — Fellow Archangel whose disinterest in daily governance allows Michael to take charge after the losses in Dubai 354.
- Shaja / Gabriel — Fellow Archangel turned opponent. Her defense of Fusion Magic and alliance with Chen Lang provoke Michael's fury; he personally fights her during the Dubai campaign 367 371 373.
- Ding Yumian — Hidden adversary whose psychic interference prevents him from finishing Shaja. He eventually concludes that the unseen attacker is a powerful Mind System Sorcerer 374 375 381.
- Sariel and Midarun — Fellow Archangels who enter battle alongside him against Dubai's defenders 373.
- Phal and the Holy Shadow Apostles — Forces he orders to attack Chen Lang's group before the Archangels commit themselves 371.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Assessment and Rise to Leadership
At the Holy City conference, Michael has not completed the assessment needed to justify wielding power. He sees Chen Lang as a promising target, but another Archangel selects him first. Michael subsequently returns to cultivation 337 338.
The deaths of three Archangels in Dubai create an opening for Michael to become the Holy City's de facto leader. Raphael accepts his leadership, while the return of the previous-generation Uriel makes Michael wary of losing his newly acquired authority 354.
Consolidation and Opposition to Fusion Magic
Michael delays retaliation to expose dissident factions, reorganize the continental associations, and reach sixteen wings himself. After his breakthrough, he considers trapping Chen Lang inside the Holy City, then settles on a joint expedition with Uriel 355 366.
Fusion Magic changes his timetable. Believing its spread could erase the Holy City's accumulated advantages, Michael supports immediate action against Chen Lang and the new magic. Shaja's opposition exposes the divide between preserving angelic supremacy and improving humanity's chances against demons 367 368.
Battle of Dubai
Upon seeing Shaja beside Chen Lang, Michael orders their execution. He initially sends Phal and the Holy Shadow Apostles forward while the Archangels observe and let their subordinates wear down the defenders 371.
Michael then fights Shaja and overwhelms her, but Ding Yumian's concealed interference repeatedly prevents a finishing blow. Shaja wounds his wings, and his frustrated, indiscriminate bombardment devastates much of Dubai and causes heavy casualties among both armies 373 374 375.
Final Defeat
Michael watches Uriel's life-burning struggle against Chen Lang and realizes that he cannot meaningfully enter their battle. Uriel's death leaves him shocked and despairing, with the Holy City's soldiers losing hope 380 381.
Refusing to flee, Michael rises to confront Chen Lang and briefly restores his troops' morale. Chen Lang attacks before he can finish speaking, destroys his scepter, and follows with a hammer strike that annihilates his defenses, breaks his sixteen wings, and sends him falling into the desert 382 383.
Notable Quotes
“If this power falls into the hands of those ambitious dual-element Forbidden Curse mages, if Fusion Magic becomes widespread, the advantages our Holy City has accumulated over thousands of years will become negligible, and it might even be completely overturned.” 367
“Uriel... is dead?” 381
